Ground Textures Disappear, Game Practically Freezes

Hey everyone, I am having this recurrent problem while playing BF2. In the middle of the game, the ground textures disappear and are filled with the sky textures. I then get about 3 FPS and have to exit the game but when I exit to the desktop, everything in 4 bit, 256 color mode and there is no way to switch it back. I have to then reboot the pc. Sometimes the problem occurs in the game and I am able to exit out of BF2 with the desktop retaining its normal settings but when I log back into BF2 and play a game, the ground textures are gone from the start.

I have checked the temperature of my video card while playing and it doesn't seem to be a problem. My system specs are:

    AMD64 3000+
    Geforce 6800 NU
    1GB OCZ RAM @ 2-3-3-6
    420 watt power supply

I saw this problem posted on here a few weeks ago but failed to find it again. If anyone has seen this problem or knows a fix, I would appreciate any reply. Thanks!

P.S. I remember messing around with TUNEXP a couple months ago to tweak my desktop settings to run more efficiently. Maybe this could be a cause, I dunno

Any of the tuning and tweaking utilities can cause corrupted drivers. Personally, I would make a restore point and remove the tweaks.

I think it sounds like your video drivers are corrupted and need to be cleaned using a driver cleaner then reinstalled. Don't forget to install the latest motherboard chipset drivers from the website too in the event that they are corrupted too.
