Can't bind same key in two different sections?

Why can't I have left control as my crouch key in Common controls, and then in aircraft, have left control bound to secondary fire?

You can because I have a similar setup. There is a thead here somewhere to show you how to remove the preassigned key assignments for remapping. You will have to search the forums though.

This sucks. I hate having my crouch key as 'c', so when I'm not flying I go into my config and change it, but when I want to fly, I have to go and change it back. Is there no fix for this? I used to be able to have it this way, but now all of a sudden on this reinstall I'm getting this bug.

Also, according to EA, the only keys you can't reassign are:

• Keyboard Numbers 4, 6 & 8.
• Tab Key
• Home Key
• F9-F12 Keys
• Mouse Axes and Scroll

F1-F8 Keys are usuable only if removed from Land controls.

That link doesn't help because it's referring to the demo, and the directory paths are invalid. So I have no idea which .con to edit, and where it's located. I found one yesterday and tried binding LeftCtrl to both the actions I want it to be associated with, but it didn't work. This is one of the most annoying things.

Ok, here is the correct file path for the retail version:

C:\Documents and Settings\Shamus\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001

...make a copy of Controls.con for safe keeping. Now open the original Controls.con and remove the offending lines of code. Once back in the game menu, they should be free for you to assign as you wish.

This still doesn't help me though. My problem is this. When I first installed BF2 and was playing, I have LeftCtrl binded to both Common crouch, and Aircraft Alt-fire. Upon reinstalling the game the other night, I cannot bind LeftCtrl to both action anymore. Only one or the other. I've since, unwillingly, bound 'c' to altfire for my aircraft. Even after going into the config and deleting all LeftCtrl text lines the problem persisted. Thanks for the help anyway. Maybe 1.03 will fix this?
