Hello there! I have a high-end PC with a P4 3 Ghz, 256 Mb video card, 1gb RAM and one of the highest Californian home DSL connection speed (>25 mb). Everything used to work fine with BF2 multiplayer... until I reinstalled BF2 (because of a change of serial nb), installed the latest patch (bfpatch-V102, although the installer calls it v101) and updated Punkbuster with pbweb. Now, when I want to play, out of some 50 servers, 49 have pings of 500 or more. I have checked at the same time my ping with an online test and I have pings of 100 or less. So, the pb is with the game for sure. I cleared the BF2 cache but it won't do much. Hopefully, I am usually left with 1 server or 2 with a decent ping so I can keep playing but this is not a long-term solution. Please, help me and I will bless you until the end of my internet times. lama010101

Re: Unusual VERY high ping
The servers ping with over 500, but do you actually get that when you join? -

Re: Unusual VERY high ping
only 50 servers show up for you? whenever i look for a server there are over 500 each time (filter at: ranked, no recorder, pb, large and medium maps only). and only a fraction with low pings... I would say a firewall is the problem.
Cause apparently high ping is not the problem, as you are finding a couple servers with low ping, but instead, you can't see all the servers.
Do you have any firewalls? Router?Comment

Re: Unusual VERY high ping
You most likely have corrupted files. A manual uninstall will often solve these problems. Here is what EA recommends:
You can manually uninstall the game by removing the files and registry keys associated with it. Be sure to follow these steps exactly as they appear to prevent accidental file/program deletion on your system.
To delete the save files:
1.
Open My Documents.
2.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
To delete the game files (in the default location):
1.
Open My Computer.
2.
Open the C drive.
3.
Open the Program Files folder.
4.
Open the EA GAMES folder.
5.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
6.
Close all open windows.
7.
Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2:
1.
Click on the Start button.
2.
Click on Run.
3.
Type regedit in the text field.
4.
Click File and then choose Export.
5.
Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
6.
Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
7.
Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
8.
Click the plus sign next to Software.
9.
Click the plus sign next to DICE.
10.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
11.
Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
12.
Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
13.
Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
14.
Click the plus sign next to Windows.
15.
Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
16.
Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
17.
Right-click and choose Delete on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B}.
18.
Close the Registry Editor.
Battlefield 2 should now be completely uninstalled. If anything appears to be working incorrectly after editing the registry, simply double-click on the Backup file on your desktop to restore the old registry.Comment

It is an issue with Gayspy, sorry I mean GameSpy. It is one of the worst game finders, but EA insists on using it.Comment

Re: Unusual VERY high ping
Thanks to all for your help. I have a router + firewall but BF2 is open/allowed and it used to work ok before I reinstalled it with a new serial nb. And you are right, I have much more than 50 servers, maybe over 200. Regarding pings showing high, yes, they also are very high and game is lagging when I (try to) play. Before reinstalling manually once more as suggested, is there a way to shunt Gamespy? Cheers to all. Yes, you are blessed!!Comment

And the winner is... Shamus! I uninstalled and reinstalled as recommended and things went back to normal (=several servers with decent pings). Well, nothing beats starting from scratch! Thansk a lot to you all for your precious help.Comment
