could somebody please tell me how to activate the battle recorder!

You have to be on a server that has it enabled - unless you mean how do you do it on a server you made? -

you can!
open the console ingame (press ` )
type demo.recorddemo NAME
(the NAME can be anything, not too many characters though)
to stop the recording:
type demo.stoprecording
when you've finished recording go to windows and make sure the demos folder and its contents are located in these two folders (it will be in one of them but it usually needs to be in the other too)
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Demos
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default\Demos
Go back to the game and go to the tab COMMUNITY and click your demo name and play
For instructions on playing (the cameras, play speeds etc) and recording (to save it so it can be viewed in windows media player *or similar*) go hereComment
