    Assistance

    Morning All...

My freind has recently purchased BF2... last night I went through the set up with him...

For some reason the VOIP does not work... For the sake of clarity, both head sets and mike work... (i play every day in my clan on ventrillo)

I set up a squad, he joined... i could not hear him, he could not here me.
pressing `b`, green icon came up...i went through all the audio options and all is ok...

Can anyone assist here? Any ideas why we cant hear each other?

        Re: Assistance

erm.... theres a few problems with VOIP. I'll start with the most obvious one:

Make sure the mic is plugged into the primary mic slot. Thats the plug directly into the sound card.
The mic won't work if its plugged a secondary port. Like on the front of your computer.

If the speaking icon comes up ingame then thats the most likely problem, theres another error that makes the VOIP turns off during game (look at the VOIP options screen - everything will be set to 0 and unticked).
Doesn't seem to be your case but to fix it, open start menu (in windows) and click run. Type dxdiag and click run
Look for the sound tab and click hardware acceleration down to basic....

Try the first one thats generally the problem associated with your symptoms.

EDIT: You must be in a squad for VOIP to work as well

EDIT 2: I just got this from the EA support site:

If you meet these criteria but the VOIP fuctionality is still not working, verify that your sound card is the Default Sound Device on your computer.

        1. Open the Control Panel.
        2. Double-click on Sounds and Audio Devices.
        3. Make sure that your hardware sound card is listed as the Default Sound Device. You may need to adjust the individual options on the Sound and Audio tabs.

              Re: Assistance

I have a weird issue when I go into BF2 my sound card mutes the Microphone output... and its only when I start BF2. Check to make sure you're mic volumes are up and un-muted.

Well sometimes it's the obvious we overlook. Are you sure the Server supported VoIP. Many don't and this could be all it was.

Matt_Flex, be polite on forums and respect that somebody is trying to help, if you don't like the answer; don't pay attention. You can always ask the fellow members of the clan (i refer to use squad) we're bove part of, you now I never let you down!

                      peace all...

lcplsickoll or anyone else - how do you know, before entering a server, that it is VOIP enabled?

The Headphone Icon in the browser - same place you can view if its ranked / what OS its on / etc... They're to the left of the server name in the browser.

Also - we have a clanmate who has an exact problem as mentioned before. BF2 mutes his mic, everytime. He has to minimize and check Windows to unmute it....make sure something like this isnt happening as well.
