What kind of soundcard do you have?
My specs (in my sig) I used to have a SOundBlaster Live 5.1 card and was getting 40-50fps on all high settings. After installing the SB Audigy 2ZS I am getting 60-80fps.

Wahoo , I have a Soundblaster live 5.1 and and now Im gonna upgrade my sound . How much is an Audigy 2ZS anyone ? I also have an AGP 6600 GT and half my settings are on high with 4 AA and its fine . Although I turn off shadows

PSU maybe? cause mine was too low and made the card slow down overall and not just in the game...

The other guy states that his 6600GT is PCI express, your is AGP, perhaps that is a factor?

your problem is the AGP card. your computer is decent, but not enough, sadly. My mate upgraded to a 775 3.0 and he's got a PCI-E 6600gt, and his graphics are very, very nice. if you want a PCI E card you'll prolly need a new mobo, which means you'll prolly want a 775 processor, and prolly want ddr2. is it worth upgrading? maybe you should look at getting a faster agp card? 9/x800 xt possibly. good luck!

(normally i'd just scoff at anyone with a geforce card, but the 6600gt pcie is a very respectable and capable peice. it's a shame you didnt get one)

OK CPU-Z says 160 MHz

If you have a 3.0 P4 it is most likely of the varient of P4s that are with HyperThreading and 800MHz FSB (QDR), which means that RAM should run at least 200MHzx4 (your CPU-Z displays 160)= 800MHz.

This would be displayed as 200MHz in CPU-Z, so either your RAM is not fast enough to run at 200MHz = (400 DDR) = PC3200 or you have wrong settings in BIOS.
Also if you motherboard isn't capable of utilizing 800FSB or PC3200 RAM then your system would suffer from it and a P4 3.0 800MHz FSB would not run at its full potentiel.

My first thought was that perhaps old, mixed drivers were present or you're suffering from OS Rot (having the OS installed for a long time therefore performance degrades). If you suspect OS Rot, then a complete reformat and reinstall of the hard drive will do wonders.

I can't find that motherboard on the ASUS site and no reference to it via Google, even tried with P5D-LA, are you sure that it is the right model number??

Is it a home built or from a OEM like HP or similar??

On the site it's under ASUS PSD-X. That includes PSD-LA and other sub categories or something I think. But anyways, I'm thinking of simply getting a 6800 GT and returning the 6600 GT. Would that do the trick you think?

Sounds like the memory is PC2700 to me. Well you can upgrade to the 6800gt, but if the card isn't the problem then you'll still be let down. What kind of framerates are you getting now? 30-40, 50-60?

do you run xfire while you play? i have a 6800gt and 2.8ghz p4, 1 gig ram and my fps went from 20-30fps and hiccups with xfire on to 40-50 fps and no hiccups with xfire off. same ingame settings btw.

Yea it looks like a OEM board GWS, I had troubles finding proper listing of specs for ASUS boards used in OEM PCs before.

As lcplsickoll says hold off on getting a new gfx until you are sure the bottleneck isn't the rest of your system, if it is, a new gfx will have little effect. The 160MHz also looks like PC2700 to me, which is 333MHz DDR = 166MHz.

My framerate is pretty consistent at 50-60 fps o med as long as I don't rotate the camera. Then it drops to around 20.

I don't know anything about my motherboard or motherboards in general. But CPU-Z says PSD-LA. I remember seeing it under PSD-X when tryin to flash my BIOS a while ago. Forgot the site.

Anyways I think it's just my card, and BF2. Every other high-end game runs fine. But if it takes a 6800 GT to run this game, I'll have to do it (been playing the battlefield series for too long to drop it now).

you should not be having problems i probally have a worse system and can run it at med. settings just fine no lag
