    TEMPORARY BF2 freezing.

    System -

    Abit AV8 K8T800Pro
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    2x512MB Corsair ValueSelect DDR400
Seagate Barracuda 45GB (Partitioned) UltraATA HDD
    eVGA GeForce 6600GT

OK, I'm still playing the BF2 Demo. I'm not willing to buy the full version of the game for the following reason. When I load the map, not immidiately, but soon enough, the game will start freezing for about 10 seconds. Sometimes this happens only once a minute, or it can happen as soon as every 10 secs. The thing is, after the 10 secs are over, the game resumes.

Those 10 secs are usually crucial. If I'm in a plane, I've most likely crashed. If I'm aiming at someone, I've most likely lost them.

This is really starting to annoy me. I have the latest drivers for my video card and stuff.

    Help?

Also, will this problem also be present in the full version of the game? The freezing doesn't happen with any other game.

I have the full retail version of the game and I have the same exact problem. Singleplayer is fine, but every time I join a server it's goofy for the first 10-15 seconds, then everything is fine. It sucks though because sometimes the base I spawned at is getting over run so it's impossible to do anything and you're a free target. I've tried everything mentioned on these forums and beond. I just hope 1.3 will fix it up nicely. I really doubt it thought. Heres my specs:

    ASUS A8V Deluxe
    Athlon 64 3500 Clawhammer 939 Socket
    2x 512MB Corsair TwinX PC3200 DDR
    Geforce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3
    SB Audigy 2
    60GB Seagte
    80GB Maxtor

Are you both running high details?

I am, but I wanted to see what I could do before I went to the last resort and started turning stuff down. I plan on upgrading to an SATA hard drive pretty soon. I'm starting to wonder if my current setup is transferring data to slow. Either that or pop in another gig of ram and see what happens.

Three things come to mind. 1. You are running too high graphic settings for your mem size (1024MB). That will make BF2 use the harddrive during play and as a result the VIA harddrive controller which is both slower and uses more CPU than Nvidia's will cause the game to slow down dramatically.

          2. Fastwrites are known to cause random freezes (I do mean total freeze) for up to 3 seconds and you could try turning it off in the driver or BIOS.

          3. AGP aperture size should be 256MB. As a rule of thumb this setting should be 1/4 of your memory size. If you have 2048MB ram 256MB should still be sufficient though.

I turned AGP Fast Write off in my BIOS and I honestly didn't see any difference. I think if i'm gonna want to run High Detail in this game I better upgarde my RAM to 2 Gigs. Even though it's gonna hurt the wallet :hmm:

Fast writes should always be disabled.

                Re: TEMPORARY BF2 freezing.

Didn't work. The first time I played after setting the AGP aperture size to 256MB, I froze very little, like once every 5 mins or so, but after that, the freezing was back as often as ever. Whats the AGP Aperture size? If its the vid card memory size, its a 128MB vid card...

I'm running on mid setting with no AA. My system should be able to and is able to handle BF2 on med. settings.

And disabling Fastwrites didn't help either. What are they anyways?

see, my system ..actually i wouldnt call my heap of **** computer a system, but anyway.. it freezes at random points during game play for maybe 5-15 seconds at a time, not good when your flying or capturing a flag point..

I found a fix tho... i worked over the summer, earned alot of money and im building my own computer to 3GBRAM, AMD 3800+ etc etc etc... that should fix it

Thats the exact same problem I have, but how do you think buying a better PC is going to fix it?

And don't get 3GB, get 2GB max. Windows doesn't like more than 2GB, you'll find out the hard way if you buy 3GB.

                    2GB is more than enough.
