Upgraded system, bf is now slower :/

System:

p4 3ghz
2gb geil ddr400
asus x800xt 256 gfx
xp pro sp2

Since upgrading Ive noticed that bf2 takes longer to load the maps and to verify the client data, why could this be?

The game runs smooth with everything on high, but its the loading that is the main problem. I also encounter random crashes to desktop on occasion.

Any advice?

downloaded latest drivers run a virus scan spyware and adaware. Any programs running in the background. Need to turn off the programs your not using like norton mcafee etc.

what upgrade did you do?

I found defraging my pagefile (and disk) really helps out alot. google for info or use a program like diskeeper or perfectdisk.

The reason it's slower now is likely because your memory speed and timings were lowered by the motherboard. 4X512MB sticks of RAM usually defaults the speed back to 333Mhz. Booting will take a bit longer because it has to verify the additional Gig of RAM.

It's possible and it can also be tricky to get the best settings between stability and performance. It all depends upon your motherborad's BIOS options. I would need to know what motherboard you have before I can say for sure.

Its an abit ic7 board.

default ram timings are something like 2.5,8,4, (cant remember the last one)

Your motherboard will handle it just fine.

To keep it in dual channel mode, just make sure to install the matching pairs in DIMMS 1+3 and 2+4.
