    Curious Question

    Im not sure if this is the right place to post this but i was wondering something about the frames per second and the monitor refresh rate.

    my monitor refresh rate is at 60hz and when i play cs1.6 the max frames per second i can get is 60fps..makes sense? then when i play cs source (cant use bf2 as an example cuz comp isnt good for it) i can get up to like 100fps...how is that possible if the screen refresh rate can only go up to 60hz

    Your monitor has a set amount of refresh rates. Also, if you have VSync and stuff on like in CS it locks your framrate at 60fps.

      CSS has a Vsync So it locks your frame rate.

        Can't you typically uncap the fps in console by typing fps_max 100?

          ^^ thats how you do it in cs but bf2 and others i dunno, and that also doesn't really solve his question either =/

          from what i no/think, fps is strickly what your gfx is shoving out, your monitor though is gona only take so many

          ex, 100fps on a 60hz screen, gfx is and can display 100 fps, but ur monitors just ditching the extra and displaying 60

          i really dont' no if this is all true but, hell its an idea

            FPS and refresh rate are two entirely different things. FPS is determined by how fast your computer can generate a new image to display. The refresh rate is how fast your monitor refreshes the image displayed. If your FPS is higher than your refresh rate then the extra "frames" are wasted, because it means that your computer is feeding new images to the monitor faster than the monitor can throw them up on the screen.
