I just got to lance corporal and have been dying to unlock. how do you unlock a weapon?

Quit The game...go back in menu, something should popup...Worked for me.

Go to BFHQ, you'll get a list of available weapons (you should have seen this when notified of your promotion). Unlock your choice (Medics get the L84A1, Snipers get the M95 and so on - think hard about which you'd like, you don't get another chance). Then, when you next join a game, you'll see a little toggle switch next to the Medic's weapon (if that's the one you chose) which allows you to swap between the original and the Unlocked weapon.
