I changed my 9800Pro for a 6600GT today having had countless crashes with the old card (seems BF2 REALLY doesnt like 9800s). When i was using the radeon, I was playing at 1280x1024 with everything on Medium and AA on 2x, and it ran absolutely smooth. The 6600GT, overclocked to 550/1.1Ghz now struggles to run at the same settings! Both 128MB cards, nothing else has changes, and the 6600 scores about 3000 extra points than the raddy in 3dmark 03. It's easily better on paper, and BF2 is optimised for nVidia anyway!

Can anyone shed any light on this? Using the latest forceware drivers.

My relevant specs:

3Ghz p4
1GB ram
2mb connection

Just to clarify, did you properly remove the Catalysts before removing your 9800 and putting in the 6600GT? Conflicting drivers can usually cause instability.

Hmm i didn't, I intsalled the GT then removed the catylists. Maybe i'll try another reinstall now the ATI drivers have gone.

The only thing I can think is I also setup a new router/modem today, but i've forwarded all the ports. I'll have to try what you suggest then turn the modem's firewall off if that doesn't work, see if that's the problem.

Personally I recommend reformatting the system when changing manufacturers on any major components such ad the video device or the motherboard.

But if you do not want to take that step then the correct procedure would be:

Uninstall All catalyst driver components
Run drivercleaner pro and remove any ATI remnants - http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745
Shut down the system and remove the old card
Fit the new card securly and start the system
Ignore the new 'hardware device found' crud that windows gives you and install the latest NVidia drivers
Done.
