BF2 hangs on "Joining Server" message

In the last two days, I haven't been able to connect to any server. Here is what happens in order...

    1) I start BF2.
    2) I login.
    3) I select multi-player and the list of servers appear.

Here is where the fun begins...

    4) I find the server I want and select it to see stats. After about 20 seconds, they finally appear.
    5) When I click to join the server, it just hangs on "Joining Server".

I have to end the BF2 process to get back to out. Another thing I've noticed is that my internet connection gets messed up as well, ie DNS wont resolve on 90% of websites. To get all back to normal, I have to reboot my machine.

Something on my machine is causing my internet connection to go to hell when I start up BF2. This only started two days ago and since then I haven't been able to play.

Thoughts? Are there any utilities I can run to check on issues?

Update: I found that I don't have to reboot my machine, I just run "ipconfig -renew" and my connection is back to normal. I'm going to do some more tests.

Hey there, pretty old thread here, but i've been having exactly the same problem. It only started for me after i installed the 1.21 patch. 1.22 does nothing to fix it either. Did you find a solution!?

You can try the various tests and tweaks at www.dslreports.com to see what is up. What's your ISP? Could be something on their end. Either that or someone has hijacked your PC and is using it to DDoS. Close out all programs and check your modem lights for suspicious activity. I could tell you more "tricks" to see what is going up and down your net connection but that would require advanced tools like packet sniffers that you may not have the motivation to learn.

Re: BF2 hangs on "Joining Server" message

          Hello,

I just bought BF2 - I've been playing BFVietnam and COD - but I get this same problem. Singleplayer works fine, but when I get onto the net, the first thing I notice that all account logins and menu loads take 20-30 seconds and then when I try to join any server, it hangs completely.

Very often it just hangs right there, but sometimes I get as far as to get a 'joining server' screen and once or twice I've gotten to the game lobby screen, even, but it WILL always hang at some point pretty soon - and if i do manage to get to the lobby, everything seems to happen sloooow as if on a SX33 386 or something. Then it says; you've lost connection with the server.

Anybody come up with a solution, pleeze report here

          Cheers,

          Dee
