help needed...

hi guys..

probably the 100,000 and first person to complain about some bf 2 failure...still i'm goin' to ask yer help. I've recently bought a new computer and was told about bf2 by a dear friend of mine, told me it was a superb game...which i, since i'm hooked like a fish on rex hunts' fishing rod, can only admit...but the game started ****ing up after a week or so...

my specs:

AMD 3500+ processor
1 gig kingston ddr ram
asus A8N-SLI DELUXE mobo
soundblaster live OEM 7.1 soundcard
asus extreme ax 800 xl videocard
and plenty of harddisk space

well the problem is in short that my pc crashes every other game, the screen freezes, soud continues for a couple of seconds then my screen turns blue and i hear a soft "machine gun like"sound...ive tryed everything drivers, settings..at first i thought it might be a sound problem so i bought this new soundblaster live OEM card but it still crashes...i even ****ed up my mobo once when i was trying to install a sound card, which was defect...so i had to get another one...also with this one the problem remains...

weird part is that it took a couple of days before it crashed, and after it dit once it started happening more and more...luckily i have created an image of my c: drive so i can run it over and over again...but it makes me very angry that at the moment i can't even finish a game...

anyone recognising this problem? anyone who knows a solution??

Firstly uninstall anything you put on comp around the same time of the problem, if that doesnt work uninstall bf2 and reinstall and see what happens. Then if no luck with that reinstall all your main drivers and make sure you have efficient cooling on your cpu and graphics cards.

You could even try system restore and restore all the way back to when bf2 was running good.

It seems a RAM problem, or PSU problem.
Also, and very frequently, the OS installations in store r the worst thing that can happen to a brand new computer. Do it urself. I have installed my pc myself...or actually the father of a dear friend of mine...he is in computer business for a couple of big firms in holland...problem is even he's confused 'bout my pc trippin' through the roof...we re-installed the pc a couple of times...same goes for bf2...my cpu coolers are A-Ok and my graph card has it's own fan..which is working fine too...unfortunately, cause then i'd known what the problem would be...well anyway this guy told me to check if the game has any temp files it stores somewhere on my pc...this could be the problem cause at first it worked A-Ok and after a while it's starts crashing and as time expires it crashes more often...until i reinstall the whole sheite again and the same things starts all over again...

well what about these cache files everybody is talking about, are those maybe something compared to temp files?? some people on this forum are telling others to clean these files so...

The game caches certain textures based on the currently used shader model supported by your graphics processor, this is done the very first time you play a map and is supposed to be re-done if you change a graphical setting however this does not always work and the game will continue to re-use the 'stale' textures.
You can force the game to recache the textures by deleting them from the cache folder.
To do this:

Navigate to the "C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\" folder and delete it's contents.


Possibly related: When was the last time you thoroughly cleaned out the inside of the system? If you have a lot of fans in your case then dust collects inside the case very quickly. I have 5x80mm fans and I have to clean out at least once a month.
Also, what power supply unit do you have?

the dust is no problem...I checked it out and there is almost no dust inside...the power supply shouldn't be no problem cause i bought one of the high end power supply's (just to be certain i would not get any probs with it :hmm: ...the powersupply i use is the Tagan 480 watts series... TG480-U22 to be exactly...so i don't think the problem is power related...but thanks for explaining the possible cache file problem...ill try that, allthought it'll be irritating when i have to delete the cache files everytime i want to play the game :hmm: ... but still tnx anyway

even if your power supply is a good brand, it could be faulty...do you have anyone you know(or another computer to raid parts from ) that will let you borrow thier power supply for a day so that you can test it?

That PSU is a good one and Tagan are very solid manufacturer so I doubt it is the psu at fault.
