You should only set your refresh rate to the lowest rate that is comfortable for your eyes.
60Hz is a huge headache waiting to happen for me but I can look at a 75Hz monitor all day.
Once you have it set at a comfortable rate then leave it, there is no difference in performance unless you have vertical synchronisation enabled.

60-75 if u want to melt ya eyes :p

I moved up to 100 with my new comp and it was very odd and uncomfortable but stuck with it and now my eyes have gotten use to it.
