me thinks the higher ur refresh rate the sharper the image or something like that
good for higher screen resolutions ul know if u get it wrong as ur eyes will start to melt and ul get brain ache :salute:
iv got mine at 1024x768 @70 its easy on the eyeballs

you should always play at 85 or higher with refresh rates anything lower than 85 seriously damages your eyes in the long term. I play at 100, the higher it is the better theres less strain on your eyes but be careful as some monitors dont support high resolutions and forcing a higher resolution then your monitor can handle can damage your monitor!Comment

The electron cannon inside the picture tube sweeps across a mask in the front of the tube (right behind the glass). In a computer monitor this is done progressively (one sweep from left to right covers the entire screen unlike most TV's which only takes half (called interlacing)). The number of sweeps or updates it does in a second is refered to as Hz. 60Hz = 60 updates. Most people can actually detect this update when running at 60 (known as flicker) so it is recommended to increase it to 72 or higher. I think 85Hz is a good compromise between the loss of some clarity (most monitors will loose some clarity when you increase the refresh rate) and obtaining a flicker free picture. I doubt you will notice anything above 85Hz. This also means that the monitor Hz determines how many pictures you see per second even if your graphic card is drawing 200FPS.Comment

LCD screens are different, they dont update in the same way as a monitor. You don't see any flicker on those. You should start at 60 and try moving upwards and simply use what looks best. BTW you don't have your vertical sync set to always on in the nvidia control panel do you? Generally Hz = Max FPS (on a CRT).
V-sync ensures that gfx cards FPS is synched with Hz of monitor and this keeps the FPS below or equal to the FPS your monitor is able to render, to minimize tearing of frames.
If V-sync is disabled all frames the gfx sends to the monitor is sent to monitor without syncronization, and thus any FPS counter would show the FPS the gfx produces, but the monitor is only able to show the number of FPS = Hz, it can't magically show more.
That is why one would never use v-sync on in benchmarks as it will top out at the capablities of the monitor instead of gfx card.
Generally in games, v-sync is a good thing, if your gfx card produce more FPS than Hz.
If your gfx card isn't producing enough FPS to get past Hz, v-sync might as well be disabled. Tearing is often worse if FPS > Hz if I'm not mistaken.Comment
