why does the client verification take so long

I understand why loading the map takes awhile, but what is going on during the client verification that takes forever (at least with the map load you see a meter), it's usually longer than the map load.....

how long does it actully take for you. it only takes a few seconds for. maybe the profile server is a long way away from you and takes more time. maybe your conection isn't that fast

Well I'm on cable modem (3mb/s down, 256k/s up), but there aren't any ranked servers that I can find in the Seattle area....so my ping is always in the 100's. It can take as much as 2-3 min on occasion.....real frustrating

The "verifying client" but has NOTHING to do with your connection at all, it is scanning the BF2 directory and believe it or not.... verifying the client

The biggest things that speed up the verification process are:

1) Fast drives, SCSI or 10,000 RPM Raptors

2) recently formatted drive (periodic defrags help loads if you dont format often)

3) 2 Gigs of memory - although its overkill for most other games, it helps a lot with BF2 for the verify AND the stuttering in game.

On a fresh Windows install on a newly formatted, almost empty drive the verify takes a few short seconds. I am usually in the first 5 (on my team at least) to rejoin at map-change and sometimes am completly alone for a few seconds free to take my pick of planes or armour . Its all very useful if you are capping flags as you can be through the defense line before most people spawn, let alone get thier act together. :laugh:

It's not your internet I had the exact same problem. Map would load quickly then verifying would take like 5 mins. I upgraded to 2 gigs of ram and it takes no more then 5 seconds now.

I've only got 512 and it takes a about 10 secs. The rest of my comp is fairly buff though.

not really a bother for me my verification takes 1min and 30 seconds with load times at around 1 min. That gives me a quick 2 min time to work out!!! I can do 70 pushups in that time!

Whats wrong with that I have a Ultra320 SCSI Icy Dock Hot Swap Raid Cage in a stand alone enclousure........currently I only have Ultra160 drives since Ultra320 are so damn expensive....but man its the SHIZZLE

I'd def like some 15k RPM Cheetah ultra320s

but yeah the verifying thing is client side....

just after im verified i get kicked in to a gameserver (different every time). Does this happen to you all? It doesnt happen to any of my friends here!?

Verifying the client takes a while and most of the time i get lots of stuttering/ comp lag on map change =/

I have 1.5 Gigs of ram and everything else decent, however it still takes 5-8 minutes.
