    DICE Hiring (bwahaha!)

    www.planetbattlefield.com

The mighty developer of our of dear Battlefield series has a vareity of jobs available, and has informed us of letting the word out. They are looking for Producers, Programmers and Artists, all preferable with experience from the mod community. Please send your resume and application to jobs@dice.se or visit their work page below for a list of other open positions.
So they need Producers, Programmers, and Artists. I've come to one of two conclusions:

    1. There's been a mass exodus. The people are sick of being under the big, fat, smelly, hairy foot that is EA; or

    2. They finally decided to suck it up and hire people who've actually gone through the C++ "Hello World" tutorial.

    You decide!

Well if you can do a better job and get every single detail correct. Then hats off to you. Secondly their are millions of things they did right and only a couple that they not even purposely did wrong. Have some respect for the people who made one helluva game. Oh and to this exodus of people, dont think so, have you ever heard of companies expanding. When you expand you need more people(Why was that not one of your intelligent conclusions?). Overall this is just a a silly thread that you started to create some trouble. So kutos in that regard, casue i responded.

Fact is, this game had WAY more problems than it should have. It's a multi-million dollar business, they HAVE to get every single detail correct, or their public relations will go down the ****ter.

My guess is they are just like every other company out there. They are staffing up for the next PC version of the product line as well as the Xbox 360, PS3 push.

There is a shortage of people in the games industry right now, so most companies are hiring.

yeah computer programming right now is highly specialized, a student who came out of the same programming class i took, except a couple yeard before me, is making $120,000 right out of high school, although C++ is really hard, we started from Flash's action script, another guy out of high school is makin 75,000 buckaroo's, its nuts.

What's with the Dice as*-lathering? Why do some people treat these companies like their gods. It's like you throw all standards out the window just because they make games. These companies have conditioned people like YOU to not only beta test their games, but to even be grateful for the honor. What joke!

But, I CAN do a better job; in fact, I do it every single day. I happen to be a Sr. Software Developer so I know a thing or two about what they're doing. The code from BF1942 is flat-out disgusting. I would be embarrassed to have my name attached something so attrocious. I haven't seen the code from BF2, but given the fact that it's plagued by many of the same problems BF1942 was (ahem... I thought this was a "brand-new-from-scratch" engine, fellas???), my bet is it really isn't any better.

Is this a personal attack? Hell yeah it is. People are getting really fed up with paying good money for products that take 6 months POST RELEASE to finish. If you want to be a doormat, that's your busines... but those of us with a little self-respect and some basic expectations for quality of product have a very valid right to be ****3D.

And don't give me this "every single detail" horsesh1t. Basic functions of the game weren't working out of the box. In some respects, it's still in shambles. I don't know about you, but I think long and hard before I pump someone full of lead... don't want to be punished for TK'ing a guy with a red name and all.

As for the "ever heard of expanding", yeah... have you ever heard of READING THE WHOLE THREAD, or did you just casually overlook option #3?

And I don't owe them any respect. I paid my $50 for a game that is one of the most unstable titles in years. I could honestly care less whose fault it is, too. To us, EA and Dice are a singular entity, and collectively it's their job to meet basic software standards, and if you recall BF1942's release, they didn't exactly hit the strike zone then, either. If Dice can't produce quality work under EA, then they shouldn't have partnered with them.

No one can ignore the fact that this game suffers far more than its fare share of problems. Just because the game design itself was absolutely brilliant (and it sure was), the execution SUCKED no matter HOW you look at it.

isn't it easier to code and work on an already stable and proven engine? Meaning, that creating a "brand-new-from-scratch" engine would naturally have problems involved?

i think that's how it goes.

Keep in mind if you dont code a good engine core, upgrading the engine is almost useless an impossible without the very center. Its like math if you dont have the foundation of 1+1 there is no way you can hope to understand calculus.

Which brings us to the reason some gaming companies remake an engine such as DICE, which is why we have such a buggy engine, and very unprofessionally done.

Uhm he's right for the moment.

Most people dont understand the industry is trying to expand. There is no shortage of programmers, or software engineers. On the contrary their is an abundance. The high paying salaries are due to the fact that developers are now being forced to do more, but more importantly are at the forefront of new breakthroughs in algorithems, etc.

If you've seen the amount of software that goes into a simple calculator, you'd understand why they can be payed a lot. Converting an equation into series takes some serious calculus.

Im at a university that specializes in computer science, SE, IT etc, and well heard many a upper classmen saying how the code in bf2 sucks and they could have done a better job. And well seeing as we have co ops here for a year each and ive seen some of there work, yea they could have easy. The code in BF2 isnt that great in no small part to the rush from EA. Dice isnt the problem the monopoly bastards that are EA are. And yea Im at a good school with 13000 people on campus, this any no gibbs crap or w/e other college are on commercials.
