    Server admin rights and priviledges

This message/question is more-so directed to the TotalBF2 team, as they are closest to giving me a right answer.

I have noticed a lot of servers are now announcing that "chopper whoring" and "chopper flag capturing" is a ban offence.

Now, I understand cheating, exploiting, glitching (if that's even a just clause)..but being a good pilot and capturing a flag is part of the game, yet clans tend to want to ban those that do so.

Is this allowed? To me, it highly resembles the warning that EA has given, preventing clans and servers to "only allow pistols and knives" on their servers. In turn, it shouldn't be allowed to prevent a good pilot of capturing a flag, as it is part of the game, and is part of the ranking system...what we paid for.

If this is indeed an infringement, can you recommend somewhere I can complain and write to EA about. Since they somehow yield the right to be @$$holes, I want that same right against them.

    Thanks

i completely agree with you on the fact that every single one of us shelled out 50 bucks for the game and we want to play it the way we want to play it -- the unfortunate thing is (trust me you'll see) the next 10 posters on this thread will all tell you "If you don't like it switch servers"

      Yep.

The only issue with this question, is that I am referring to EA's threat against those servers that "bend the rules" to their liking, therefore going against the EULA. If they want to make rules of that sort, they should be running non-ranked servers, no?

correct, but remember -- its such a nice power trip for them to kick and ban people left and right, because its THEIR server, and to them it feels ten times more satisfying doing it on a ranked server because they get to screww everybody just a little more

          LOL

Oh well, I guess when we only fork over the amount we did for the game, it's up to the big geeks to actually rent server space for us to enjoy our game on. Without them, I wouldn't be playing..and what fun is that? :)

Most likely, they want the BH all too them selves, and anyone that takes it is not playing by their server rules. I hate it just like everyone else, but it's their server, they pay for it and can kick anyone they want. Find another server, or let them Drive the BH and Grab a Wrench.

Doesn't take a skilled pilot to cap flags. But if you were to transport the troops over to the base, drop them off, (either by them parachuting out or landing) letting them cap the flag & clear the base, then pick them all up again & move to the next base. Now thats a skilled pilot ... And squad!

Re: Server admin rights and priviledges

I, along with my clanmates, have rented and administrated many servers for other games. I am very confident that MOST server admins want their server to be fun for everyone. It's a good feeling to have a popular server where regular players keep coming back. Unfortunately, not everyone agrees on what makes a particular game fun. Admins create rules for their server based on their idea of a fun game.

I also agree that we all payed $50 for the game and should be able to play it how we like, less cheating, exploiting, etc. That's what EA's public servers are for. Those guys that shell out much more money per month then they payed for the game itself have the right to decide how the game is played on their server(within certain limits). The guy that pays the bills gets to make the rules. There are so many servers open to the public that everyone should be able to find one that has rules to his/her liking.

                  Slightly Off-Topic:
Yes, there are bad admins that give all admins a bad rap. They are in the minority though (I have yet to come across one in BF2 myself). There are also bad players. Just because someone posts in a forum that they were kicked/banned for some absurd reason doesn't make it so. I have dealt with these situations more then enough times to know that many details leading up to a kick/ban have been conveniently forgotten by the person posting. More often then not, people posting in forums about a bad admin are seeking revenge on a particular admin/clan or looking for some sympathy to stroke their own ego. Going through the trouble to contact an admin (in a civil manner) to resolve any issues gains much more respect then a public flaming in some forum.

                  Just my 5 cents...keep the change ;o)

Re: Server admin rights and priviledges

I'm sure EA won't like the fact they're kicking people for stuff like that. I've ran into admins that have similar behavior, but I haven't seen any that complain about usage in general (unless they of course want it for themselves). Definately sounds like something EA should hear about though.

As for switching servers...it would be a heck of a lot easier to switch than convince a power tripping admin they're wrong, but as long as you can bring EA down on'em, I say bring EA down on'em first. If they don't like you on that server after that, then the switch might be a good idea. :p

Noticed this more and more, being kicked daily for no reason by Admins on ego trips........last nights crime, jumping into the gunner seat in the heli...... kicked.....ranked server as well.

Re: Server admin rights and priviledges

My worst admin experience was on a server called multiplay.co.uk SKYGODS.
I was playing chopper maps, when I joined Fushee Pass just begun. I started playing with PLA chopper, clanmembers were playing USMC side. I shot down the US chopper twice in dogfight. A teammate requested pickup, I picked him up. He turned out to be a hell of a gunner, spotting targets, shooting jeeps and stingers while we capped flags. We shot the enemy chopper about 3-4 times outside visibility range. (teammates spotted, my gunner shot tv-guided to direction) At that time, one clan member was in the opposing chopper. Suddenly we noticed 1 tank a nd 2 APCs heading out base, we attacked and eliminated all of them in one swoop. Bang! My gunner banned. Bang! I was banned too.
Really sad when admins ban opposing good players on a ranked server, in order to be able to get more points. I will never go to their server again. Even if the clanmember in the chopper was fair: he didn't mind that we took him out multiple times.
                        SKYGODS....... skydogs, i say.

Re: Server admin rights and priviledges

I believe EA took action against the knife/pistol servers to protect the integrity of the stats system. Basically, these servers were making it easier to score high points as well as earn certain badges. I didn't like the way they went about doing - making up rule AFTER people had been punished for it, but this was something that needed to be done.

Other rules such as "no chopper capping", "no punishing", "no spawncamping" and "no bunnyhopping" etc. definately does not have the same effect. These kinds of rules prevent the "grey types" of stat padding. If you don't like it, then by all means complain to EA like a little nancy boy. Remember however that those servers are catering to a certain crowd that appreciates that style of gameplay and who also paid their $50. The simplest thing is to find another server where you can play how you like. EA official servers sound just right for you.

Contrary to popular belief, you DO NOT have a RIGHT to play on any ranked server you choose. The leasors of that server have absolute authority to prevent you from doing so if they so decide. Some people abuse that authority. Most admins use their power responsibly. If they do not and you don't like it then there is no need for you to go back there. They will be the ones eventually paying for an empty server.
