I admit it -- I am stumped!!!

Hey guys -- here is the deal...

I was running the unpatched version of BF2 -- it would play fine for about 20 minuts and then crash -- so I patched to 1.02 -- now I cannot even get the game to load -- just a black screen back to desktop crash...
I have tried older / current / and evem beta video drivers...

Here are the specs:

Pentium D 820 2.8 gHz per core
1 gig of ram
nvidia 6600 pci-express card
256 mg of video ram!!!
HELP!!!

Did you receive ANY errors while patching?

There have been LOTS of problems with patching to 1.02.

Your system is probably fine...it likely has to do with the patch.

So...check your Event Log and see if there are any clues there...otherwise, completely uninstall BF2 and delete your cache and profiles (save your control .con files for backup if you wish).

Reinstall and re-patch or use this patch:

Will do -- I will update after I try it....thanks....one more side question...my system should be totally fine to run BF2 -- do you think it would be a good idea to update 1) ram or 2) new video card?

Ok -- so I did a clean install -- no problem -- I opened the new patch, and a dos window opened and tried to do something, but it definatly didnt patch...I ran the patch.exe file.....ideas?

You have to extract all of the files to your hard drive and run patch.exe from there.

Don't run it straight out of the .zip file.

I actually did extract them to a temp directory....Does it just patch extremly fast in dos? when I load BF2, it says it is version 1.02 something...

Nope..you aren't patched.

v1.02 is actually v1.1.2484.0

I'm guessing you installed Battlefield 2 to a directory other than the default?
c:\program files\ea games\battlefield 2

ok -- I unzipped it to the battlefield 2 directory -- now it is patching....The game has been sucessfully updated, and now I am back to the original problem :-( -- crash to desktop after trying to load...any ideas?

Crap...I was hoping you wouldn't say that

So we now know it has nothing to do with an improper patching.

I'm assuming you deleting your profiles and your cache as well?

Do you have a software firewall running?

Are you using any special command line options or are you using the default icon to launch?

Did you check the Event Viewer for any clues?

Do you have ANYTHING overclocked?

Ok -- how do I check the event log (yea I sound crazy eh)....No firewalls, I deleated the profiles and cache....weird huh?
