Hey all, I was just wondering what the "IP" adress thing is, I here it has something to do with teamspeak, wich I also don't know what that is! could someone help me out?

FromWikipediaHelp any?An IP address (Internet Protocol address) is a unique number, similar in concept to a telephone number, used by devices (usually computers) attached to a network to refer to each other when sending information through a Local LAN, Wide area WAN or the Internet networks. This allows devices passing the information onwards on behalf of the sender to know where to send it next, and for the device receiving the information to know that it is the intended destination.
An example IP address is 207.142.131.236. Converting a number address to a more human-readable form called a domain address (www.wikipedia.org) is done via the Domain Name System. The process of conversion is known as resolution of the domain name.

Teamspeak is a Voice over IP program. A Teamspeak user will often wear a headset with integrated microphone. In order to use Teamspeak you have to run a Teamspeak client and log on to a Teamspeak server. Teamspeak is often used for organization by online multi-player gamers playing on the same side of a team-based multiplayer game. Thanks to Teamspeak, they do not have to put themselves at risk by using their keyboard for typing instead of moving. Usually a player logs on the team speak server before starting the game.
An addition to Teamspeak is Teamspeak Overlay. This program displays the name of the person that is speaking. -

IP = Internet Protocol.
Every computer on the internet has an IP. It is how internet servers know what information is being request from what computer. Each house hold generally has 1 IP. Usually your IP changes on a regular basis, however some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) choose to have a static IP, or one that does not change. However most ISP's choose dynamic (changing) IPs. The only time static IPs are used on a consitant basis, is for servers. This is because if they were to change the WhoIS databases (the thing that tells your computer what IP belongs to what doman [ie: www.yahoo.com -> 69.92.102.133]) would have to be contantly updated. And although regionally the effects would be almost immidiate, world-wide, it can take up to 48 hours. What does that mean? It means no service to those outside of the servers region? So that is why servers have static IPs.
Teamspeak, along with anything else that connects to the internet uses IPs. Usually in the form of "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" and sometimes with a port number after it "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:123456" or something like that. This is so when your computer connects to the server, the server can automatically connect it to the correct program (either teamspeak, or website, or gameplay).
Teamspeak is a program simular to Battlefield 2's Voice Over IP (VoIP). Recently phone companies and cable internet providers alike, have taken advantage of this technology and have been able to offer customers cheap phone services, which includes long distance. This is because your voice is actually transmitted over the internet. Teamspeak simply uses your internet connection to transmit voice data to other people with the same program. So technically, if everyone in the world used Teamspeak, you could get phone and internet for the price of just internet. Unfortunately this would not allow you to call someone, as they would have to have the program running as well. This is where companies such as Vonage step in. The program a router to take a signal and turn it into a phone signal, and it rings your home phone, and walla, VoIP phone services.

wow! thanks dudes, um.... I would ask ya'll to put that into english but that's ok I think I should just stick to simpler technology like figuring out how to turn on my computer:laugh: well I think I'm cool with sticking to VOIP or whatever, hehe.... but thanks anyway! And I would consider it a tie between ya'll cause whats his face posted first but the other dude had more info on the second post, that he didn't cut and paste from
