Flame away but this game's support sux

I know I'm gonna catch 9 kinds of "whiner . . . then don't play" crap but I just have to get this off my chest. This is a great game. I've been playin since the wake mp demo and I love the series and am amazed at where they have taken it. But there is no denying that this BS with poor interface, buggy server connects, and out of whack ping numbers is just TOTAL CRAP. I still get lock ups at the login screen.

I just can't understand why the patch process has been so rediculously slow. Its not as if they need to fix everything with a mega patch. They understood incremental patches with the original battlefield, you know where developers prioritize the problems and fix the most obvious ones first? I don't understand what has happened. When you work on your own system you fix one thing at a time so if something screws up, you don't have to start all over or guess at which fix caused the problem. My fear is that with the 1.03 patch, new bugs are gonna show up leaving the original problems unresolved. This is just a total rant . . . so flame on or commiserate.

i agree with you on the interface. the menus are inexcusably bad, and the server browser, far from being fixed, is arguably less functional after thier last update to it. honestly, i dont think ive ever dealt with a worse front end for a game, which is a shame, because the actual game itself is one of the best ive ever played. here's hoping the next patch does some serious revamping of the whole menu mess, but i, for one, am expecting nothing.

as for the patch, beleive it or not, this game isnt the buggiest game ever released, and while it seemed to have a lot of hardware issues to start out, most of those appear more or less resolved by the patches. i, personally, cant think of a single bug ive encountered in this game, though that could just be my amazing good fortune (and the fact that i have an nvidia video card).

im curious to know what issues you think justify an immediate (or sequential) fix, because as far as i can tell there are no game-stopping issues to be dealt with. the things they are apparently focusing on (menu functionality and gameplay tweaking) are best done all at once, or you risk having a buggy and incomplete menu (well, more buggy and more incomplete, at least) and skewed and improperly balanced gameplay. if, say, they decided to change the blackhawk to have less health or something, but didn't get around to changing all the other transports because they were releasing stuff incrementally and had to rush it, i think anyone can see why that wouldn't be a good idea. as far as i can see, they DID address the most critical issues with a relatively quick patch, to at least get the game stoppers out of the way for most people.

i say have patience. the patch will come, and everything will be great. in the meantime, once you get past the terrible menus and server browser, this game is a lot of fun, patch or no patch.

That's why I like Steam's menus. So simple and to the point. Not pretty, but it works so damn well.

I just want the patch ASAP.

Whilst its is not the buggiest, it ranks in the leaderboards of the buggiest poorly written games out there in todays world of video games. Nametag glitches are inexcusable for programmers. It means they are totally incompetent at what they are doing. Its a god damn byte for crying out loud. If you cant make that byte update properly then you shouldn't be programming is all I have to say.

Its inexcusable how they release a buggy engine to be sold commercially. Commercial games should be optimized, and more importantly rid of most crucial bugs. Although flawes within the gameplay couldn't have been found, it doesn't help by giving it to the public with all these errors.

EA/Dice need to clean up their act. Exspecially when better looking stuff (UT2007) will be out in the following year, as well as many other better engines. If EA doesn't fix its problems it'll be going under like Halo 3 which is currently trying to build a next generation engine in such a short time, while other engines like EPICS UE, and ID's D3E, will constantly be improving, and in the development for nearly 10 years.

Great feed back and I am going to be patient because I really have no choice. The reason I'm on these boards is because, once again, there are problems with connecting to the login server. My main problems are the dodgy login server and having to guess at pings most of the time. I''ve tried all the fixes but nothing works because I supect its a code issue within the browser. Its just the whole damn browser and front end interface. I'm not at all worried with content issues at this point because we all know those take time due to balance considerations and other issues. But the damn interface f***ups are just inexcusible after 3 months. Just my opinion. By the way, I really appreciate this board. Great info and great community.

To DICE's credit, this game is extremely ambitious technically, and i dare you to point out one game that manages the sort of things this one does. optimizing a game this complex, with as many players as it has, and with as many vehicles and as much ammunition flying around as there is, for use over a standard internet connection must have been absolute hell.

but one cannot make excuses for some things, and frankly im not happy with the "patch it" mentality. this game was most definitely not as finished as DICE intended it to be on launch, and it shows even after the first two patches. its hard to blame DICE/EA for this other than to condemn them as part of an industry wide epidemic of not finishing games the first time, because everyone does it. I dont see bf2 being all that particularly bad in this respect, though it isnt the best either.

You are a dumb noob. He doesnt mean the game's support class, but rather "CUSTOMER SUPPORT". Learn how to read, he didnt mention anything about the support class.

Just plain LOL, i always thoguht people posted without reading the threads, but this guy wins, he didnt even read a single line of text and is obviously replying based purely on the THREAD TITLE  :drevil: What a genius.

I also dont get how everyone is saying the patch is so slow, the game is only 3 months old and the fixed the really bad bugs (after breaking it) right back near the beggining. If you compare this to other games, especially HL2 then its super fast that was delayed for a YEAR and still hasnt got the things added that people payed for, let alone all the bug fixes that need to be addressed and the fact the VAC2 still hasnt gone live after well over a year

The same thing happens as always, the people moaning about something are much more vocal then the ones that are happy. This game has sold over 1 MILLION copies and yet there are what? 200 people? 500 at the absolute most in here saying how bad the support is and how dissapointed they are with the game/EA/DICE/the world generally they are

Its not that the HAVE to fix everything with a mega patch, but with the same principle of people screaming that they are unhappy but total silence that they are over the moon happy, then its better to do it like this and release a mega-patch with all the fixes in. October is only 3 weeks away and even if the patch id completly finished (which it wont be) i still would begrudge them 3 weeks testing to avoid the mistakes of the last patch to get it out quick and sut everyone up.

As for the server browser?? well why not use an aftermarket and FREE browser for the time being. I myself use ASE (all seeing eye) for every game, this one included)

I just like how Dice said they are not happy with the support they have gave the community and the patch will be here by the end of Aug with 140 fixes because they love us, then a few weeks later its all "well we cant do it, it will be soon after aug" then we hear a rumor that it wont be till oct...give me a break

I agree thats terrible PR, they should never have given a release date for the patch and just given it the old "when it's done" line. But then they probably would have got more abuse in the long-run, its a no-win situation for developers and they will get flamed like this whatever they do... except from people that have any idea of whats involved with programming and software development

Think how much crap they are going to catch if there are similar problems with this patch? not to mention the loss in confidence it will cause, for those reasons i am happy to wait until it finished and tested properly. Theres an old saying that goes "damned if you do and damned if you don't" that works equally well with with game developers/publishers.
