New Graphics card for my BF2 PC... Everything works BUT BF2.

OK, just got a BFG NVIDIA 6800GT OC for my BF2 rig. (had a 5950 Ultra)

Awsome, so I installed it and tested it with HL2.

    Detail: High
    Texture Quality: high
    Shader detail: high
HDR: ready. (not yet able to use, HL:LC needed)
    AA: x8
    AF: X16

Now for the reason of building this special rig... Battefield 2.
Starts fine, skips the movies liek I set it to do... then when I click login, it crashes to my desktop. But the thing is is that its like a "clean crash" for a lack of a better term. There is no discoloring or odd lines, its just like I closed it. :hmm:

Any ideas? I updated the drivers, and tried a few, but BF2 just dosen't want to work!

    This systems specs:
    3.2GHz Intel P4
    BFG 6800GT OC
    4GB RAM (edit: Misprint, it wasn't 1GB)
    Soundblaster audigy 2 pro platinum.

hmmm...you need to completely wipe BF2 from your harddrive and re-install it. Make sure there is nothing left. Sometimes if you re-install and you still have the ea games folder it can conflict. Also try using the 77.30 drivers. Those are the only ones that work for me...

When you removed the intro videos. Did you remove EVERYTHING? Because you have to leave a few files in the "movies" dir in order for the game to load up fine.

These files need to remain in the movies dir:
            menu.bik
            menu_loggedin.bik

Yea, I know that, Nor did I delete them, I renamed the .bik part .skip (avoids possible problems with PB).

              (still not working)

Did you delete the cache folder,

                  C:\Documents and Settings\Your name\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Just deleted the files in the folder... No go...

Do I need to delete the folder itself?

Have you tried to create an offline account or go into manage accounts? How long does it take approx from you press login until it crashes? When you start the login theres a lot of communication going on with the B2 stats server retrieving your player stats and also loading your personal settings. I'm just wondering if there is some driver/hardware issue that makes BF2 crash when it tries to load the game. Are you using this Audigy 2 fix with replacing the OpenAL file in the BF2 folder?

When I try multiplayer, I enter the information, and it begins the "connect to account server". Two seconds later. Back to desktop.

When I create a singal player account, 2 seconds after it says "creating account". Boom! Back to desktop.

What is this audigy fix tho' speak of?

I guess you are not using it then. Your problem happens during communication with the account server so I'm wondering about your network card. Do you have ADSL internet connection or some router with a firewall?

15/5 cable with router. (But, it also happens with single player)

I tried to search the forum to see if there is a way to get the game running without actually going online first. That might have narrowed the possibilities a bit. I think you should check for a new driver for your network card. Maybe also turn off the firewall in your router. You should normally just get a connection error from BF2 but it's a bit buggy so it could possibly crash during login because of some network issue.
