    Mousewheel issues

I am having some strange problems regarding my mousewheel. Normally, you would be able to use the scrollwheel to choose and select a weapon. However, I am not able to do this. To understand this better, here is how it started.

I am walking around in multiplayer for my first ever multiplayer round in bf2. The voice instructions guy is telling me the basics, and recently he tells me that to scroll and select a weapon, I can use the mousewheel. "Well gee" i thought, "I'd better try that". So, I move my finger up to the wheel and give it a spin. It goes up one weapon, and stops. That's it. I try it again, this time it doesn't even move. "Sigh, I guess I will just have to use 'F'....".

Recently however, I downloaded the F.E.A.R. demo, which also allows you to use the scroll wheel. Well, when their voice instructions guy told me to use the mousewheel, the same thing that happened in bf2 occurred. "Well that's strange, it has worked in previous demos of mine (hl2).

Then, as I was showing a friend bf2 on a new account, he hears the mousewheel instructions and tries it out....and its the same problem.

so yeah, that is my situation. If there is a solution, drivers, firmware, or anything that would help please tell me, I am starting to hate the 'F' key.

Umm...is this all on the same computer? If so does the scroll work in other programs? Have you tried a reinstall?

Do you have any 3rd party drivers/software installed that releate to the mouse? or are you using the default Micro$oft inf drivers?

If you have the chance to you could try using your mouse on another computer with some game installed. Does the mousewheel work normally with webpages and other applications?

LOL tons of replies now and no response from the OP

For sure try the mouse on a different PC and see what happens. Conversely, the a different mouse on your PC and see what happens.

Need to find out if it's the mouse or how your PC is configured.

sorry, hadn't had time to respond...

anyways thanks for the replies. It must be the computer because I grabbed a mouse from another computer and had the same problem. It is the original Micro$oft mouse and works for other programs and games like HL2 and CS. If I am able to find them I will try the drivers.

                thank you

Check your mouse settings. For example in winxp.. control panel > mouse > wheel > set to like 3 lines at a time.. then go to the hardware tab > ps/2 compatable mouse > properties > advanced > I have my settings in there to sample rate: 100 reports/second, assume wheel is present, input buffer length: 100 packets, fast initialization: checked.

Not sure if any of this will actually work, just ideas.

But since you said it works with other programs/games something w/ your bf2 settings could be crappy.
