    Too dark to fight

    Hi yall,
So I'm new to BF2 and I'm having a problem that I had with BF42 for the longest time. The shadows are too damn dark! I can't see a damn thing on the wrong side of buildings or inside. I was able to fix it in BF42 but I can't for the life of me remember how.

Has anybody had this problem and can you tell me how to fix it? I've tried messing with the in game setting, especially the dynamic lighting and shadows, but no luck. The really wierd thing is I was playing in one of the city maps today and I'd spawn inside a room and it would look just right for about 2 seconds, and then get dark again.

    Help!

Yes post your system specs, no one can help if you do not give sufficient information on the problem.

        Re: Too dark to fight

So what you're saying is that I need to post my system specs...

        2.8 AMD 64
        1 Gig DDR RAM
ATI 9800 Pro using Catalyst drivers
Asus KV8 Mobo (I think, can't remember, its been a year since I rebuilt)
        XP and DirectX 9.0c obviously

I think thats everything relevant, right? I'm almost sure its a software thing, or an in game settings thing, just can't figure it out. Maybe I should do the kabookie driver dance and see if that helps.

        Thanks
        MM

              Re: Too dark to fight

The setting your wanting to change is the " LIGHTING " set it to low & you will be able to see when entering buildings. Dynamic lighting deals with weapons flashes & such, Shadows just adds shodows to objects.

You sir are a man among men. That helped enough so that I can fight now. Its still a little tough to see, but its a lot better than it was. Anybody else have any ideas?

You don't have any dodgy contrast settings on your monitor do you?

Do any other games do this apart from BF2?

Nope. I can see fine in other games - I even get Planetside to work properly, which is an achievement in and of itself. After playing with the LIGHTING setting a little, it help, but not enough, sadly.

                          Re: Too dark to fight

you can try increasing your gamma. alot of video cards you can even set up profiles for different games so the ones that need it more can have it set higher and the ones that dont need as much can be lower.

if you have an nvidia it should be in the "color correction" part of nview.

Display properties -> Advanced -> Color -> Full Screen 3D, Turn up gamma, give profile a name -> save and apply.

                              Set your lighting to low.
