Formatting...What files are needed???

I'll be formatting my HD next week and am wondering which files on the BF2 disc are necessary to play online. When I installed it back in July I installed everything on the disc, but I don't think that was necessary. Thnx for the help...

Well when you reformatt you lose everything on the HD. You will have to reinstall BF2 in order to play online again. Unless you have a 2nd hd for storage and keep BF2 on that and reformatt the hd that has windows on it. I have 2 HD. One is windows XP and the other is for games only. That way if i reformatt Drive C: Drive D: has all my games do i dont have to reinstall em again.

Thnx for the reply. I have partioned my HD but will be formatting the OS and Games partitions. I am just wondering if I need to install all the PB files etc. that the BF2 disk wants to install. My gripe is installing junk that is not needed...

The problem is this. Registry entries. Your best bet, just re-install the game. It will be much easier, trust me.

You basically need every file in the BF2 Folder to allow it to work, especially online. If you expect to play on Ranked Servers, which are all PB servers. YOU NEED PUNKBUSTER! You may chose not to install it when you're installing bf2, however that's only allowing you to play on non-ranked/non-pb servers.

I would highly recommend you simply reinstall the game. I used to put my games on a seperate partition, then I quit because of formatting and losing the registry info each time.

Thats one problem with formatting. Its the registry.Although BF2 is on another HD the original registry keys are erased.
