Depends on the type of style you fight. But the G36C is pretty much a good gun for everyone, but it doesnt have alot of stopping power. 5 hits to kill anyone, but the hit detection on BF2 make it about 5-10 shots.

The G36C and the PKM are totally opposite guns. The G36C is extremely accurate but weak as hell, and meanwhile the PKM is extremely powerful, but the accuracy from long distances is terrible. It depends on which kit you like best, what type of style of play you have, and what maps you normally play.

The PKM is best if you like to rush and have alot of close range battles because you can probably kill 3 people in a row around you very easily. If you like killing people from long distances and being a sneaky Spec Ops player, go with the G36 because the accuracy is the best in the game and they have C4s to destroy armor as well. If you love city maps like Karkand, Sharqi, and Mashtuur, go with the PKM because you can dominate multiple people at a time. Support probably gives you more points though, so if you're a stat whore like the rest of the community go with the PKM.

G36C, Hands down, because it just plain owns.

But most of all because the class it belongs to can effectively counter anything in the game other than choppers. Don't know about you, but I can't stand being a class that is, ya good for one thing (Support>Mowing down troops, Assault>owns CQC, etc.) but yet theres major things they can't counter, (Support<Tanks, Assault<Tanks,) Spec Ops can effectively take out anything, Large groups of people, tanks, snipers, commander assets etc.
