Editing Maps from BF2

I looking to play around with some of the maps EA/DICE has made in BF2. I know there is a certain set of steps that needed to be taken in order to even open these files up and edit them, can anyone directing me to a post or answer the question here? I have searched 2 forums but come up with post that lead to dead ends.

Also I don’t want to span another thread so I'll post second question. Is there anyway to change the scale of a map on the fly? Let’s say I started at 512 but thought this was to small or too big. Anyway in changing this without starting over? Or even a way to copy everything I already have and bring it over to a different scale?

ya if you look me up i ask questions over there also. there response time on average is 12-36 hours though.
