'Connection to server lost' problem

Hello all

This is my very first post here and likely my last if it cant be sorted

I have installed this game many times and every time on connection to the internet multiplayer it will load server, optimize the shaders and even bring up the spawn screen only for it then to bring up the error in the title of this thread andgo back to the server list.

I have turned all firewalls off

Turned off virus checkers

my spec is:

p4 3.0 xp with sp2
gf6600gt 128mb PCie
1gb ddr400

Its not a dual core and i have a cable 2 gb connection(cable modem connected by USB.)

Ive tried loads of servers over 3 days, reinstalled 4 times, updated PB, tried joining non PB servers, gone through Gamespy and it even plays fine offline. Ive turned graphics down to min, changed connection speed type no luck. Read the internet for about 3 hours and found nothing helpful.

Plz Plz Plz I have cookies for anyone that can diagnose and cure this terminal afliction.

probobly an connecction problem with ur internet connection, umm do u get this on any other game?

Have you patched BF2 to the latest version (1.02)?

Nope

And I play a lot of online games including mmorg's sniff... I have even searched my ISP name in relation to the problem and found nothing!!

Yeh its patched to 1.02 (even tho its described as 1.01 DOH) but its the 16.3mb patch alrite :/

yeah thats the one, just dont install the 1.01 patch!

When you uninstall BF2 I think it can leave a few files\registry entries on the system. This sticky might help you find the left over's...

After you get rid of all BF2 files, reboot, reinstall and patch - then give it a go!

Nope I dont think so. I get this same issue with my 2Mbps ADSL line which is super reliable and with which i never get drop outs on other games. Oh, and my ping < 8ms usually.

Could be internet storms breaking netcode's camel's back, who knows. I think EA should investigate this one thoroughly, loads of ppl reporting this issue on this very site.

I was wondering about that too, why does it say PATCHING 1.01?

Heres the deal with this game from what Ive learned.

Everytime you make a change in hardware or hw drivers...re-install.

Dont bother adding user maps yet, they just end up hosing you down the road. Maybe not today, but a week from now when something in PB changes ,....bam....re-install.

If the power goes out and you disconnect your monitor and then reconnect it.....re-install.

Its a damn disgrace and DICE should be ashamed of themselves.
