Help Me Please Please Pc Prob

well i just got my new PC back from repairs i had it on for 2 hour and it just stopped working.................................... Here is my FULL story.

I was playing BF2 when sudden;ly the whole thing just powered down. i thought i'd knocked out a lead or something but it had just powered itself down so i pushed the on switch and it switched itself back on agian.

about 20 mins later it did this again so i switched it back on and it worked fine. i then shut the PC down using windows and went to have tea. I came back and the thing wouldent switch on!!!!!!

When the PC is opened up you can see that power is getting to the PC because their is a green LED on the motherboard that is on when the PSU on switch is on but when i push the on button ABSOLUTELY nothing happens.

i was thinking along the lines of perhaps there is some loose wireing by the on switch which kept coming loose and finally fell out but it seems looking directly at the back of the on switch it appears to be fine. so if anyone could be useful and post some solutions i would be greatful thanks.

Either the PSU is faulty, your CPU is overheating, you have a fault on the motherboard or some dodgy ram....in reality it could be one of a hundred things.

Why was the PC in for repair ?

It could be faulty power that is blowing up your power supply. If you have bad power (sags, spikes, out of phase, low amp, etc...) going into the power supply, it will greatly effect the performance of the power supply. If you are plugged right into the wall, or through a surge protector, try and get a UPS to run your computer through. This will insure that the power coming into your pc is as good as it gets. You may also have been getting the random shutdowns because of bad power coming out of the power supply. Motherboards are very picky, and if they see any power variance outside of what they like, they will just shut the computer down. What kind of power supply did they put in your computer? If it is new it should be under warranty. Stick your nose right on it, and sniff realllll hard. Does it smell burnt? They usually smell like melted capacitors after they blow, kinda like burnt plastic.

Tbh i would do a complete format, reinstall winblows and all the latest drivers/ updates e.t.c and see if it still does it. If it does then it is most likely your CPU overheating or dodgy ram.....i mean it could be the fan on the heatsink is faulty or cutting out.

Also just because the green light is on it doesnt mean that the psu is functioning properly...although if its just been replaced it's doubtful that it is the problem.

Can you actually get the machine to start up or not ?

You can't tell that the power is good or bad with out some testing equipment. I had a friend whos computer would re-boot randomly all the time, it took him six months to figure out that everytime his fridge came on, his pc rebooted. Just that little brown-out caused his power supply to shut off. And surge protectors don't really do **** to protect computers from anything but lightning strikes. You could still have some power at the mobo, because power supplies put out several different voltages. You may still have 12v, but if 3.3 or 5 is not working, pc no post. If your power supply is new, and you paid someone to put it in, just take it back and tell them its f-ed and you want a new one free of charge.
