I am few points away from second unlock. The first time I had the unlock points the game picked the weapon for me. Which, damn it, was the anti-tank shot gun. How do I chose my own unlock, and did I do something wrong to get the first?

when you get promoted close the game and open it back up then it will say blah blah blah then ask you to chose your unlock, make sure you chose it now, if u dont it will pick it for you -

No, it won't pick it for you. You must have clicked on "Select Unlock" instead of "Choose later" when you got the DAO (AT is the first unlock to show up on the list if you haven't unlocked any guns). There are arrows you can click on on the selection screen to cycle through the unlockable weapons.
But no, the game won't choose your unlock for you if you keep choosing "Choose later". I got about 5000 points after my last promotion, over the course of a couple of weeks, before I finally decided to unlock the G36C, so I know for a fact it won't choose it for you.

Chances are you clicked right through the screen because you didn't feel like reading it, and chose the DAO-12 as your unlock. Not a bad choice, and I hear it's quite a good gun.
I've unlocked the L85 and the M95 personally, the two most controversial guns. They take siginificantly longer than the other guns to get used to (which is where most of the complaints come from), but you own once you are used to them.
I recommend unlocking a gun for a kit you are most likely going to play. Don't bother unlocking a weapon just because you hear it's cool if you don't play the kit, or because you 'might like this class if the gun is good.'
