    Firewall Problem

Sorry to post another connection issue but this one is driving me insane. I have a 1Mb connection and I use a router with a firewall inbuilt. Now this set up has run every other game without a problem online. But with Battlefield 2 I get major problems which never occured when I first got the game and are getting worse.

Every time I start up BF2 I get problems, according to my Firewall log the ceiling for the number of connections is reached and it stops all packets. The result is that BF2 justs hangs either attempting to log on or whilst attempting to update its server list.

I have configured my firewall as EA suggest to let BF2 through it but this problem keeps occuring. I've tried 3rd party stuff eg All Seeing Eye etc but still get the same result. I really don't want to play with my firewall turned off as I don't just use my PC for games. Anyone have any suggestions?

Most of the data packets come in the form of the UDP port and not TCP/IP ports. Have you ensured UDP requests are allowed through your router? Or perhaps you can place BF2 and PB in the Routers DMZ?

Yep done that, its only really become a recent issue as when I first got the game it was fine, I could update the server listings fine in the BF2 server browser fine, it started to play up and I went out and got All Seeing Eye which just seems to make the problem worse. It now complelety hogs all my bandwidth now and my firewall freaks out claiming too many connections? Yet it never used to.

I don't get how it has progessively got worse though.

Yep and its clean. I use Adaware, Spybot and Spyware Blaster and they stop more or less everything even getting on my computer, its also free of all viruses, trojan, worm too.

I am completely stumped as to why its doing this.

Is this a problem all the time? Or only during the day? (when more people maybe online)

Have you tried updating your firmware on your router?

            Re: Firewall Problem

Its all the time and its only with BF2 no other online game. So I don't think its to do with traffic.

I tried upgrading my firmware ages ago but it messed up my router and Linksys (its a WAG54F) said to go back to the previous version as they couldn't solve the problems with it (reassuring really).

I'm gonna try a total reset of my router in the meantime.

If you have the option to connect directly to the Internet, by circumventing the router, then you can verify and troubleshoot if it is the router that is the problem.
