Need help flying Heli, good a jets, but not heli

Okay, I am great at the jet flying.... stay up for 15 mins or more on a regular basis. Well unless some noobs jump on the jets and crash. I hate that. Problem is with the heli I cant seem to control it at all. I start my own server and try to fly and I have the hardest time. I have a Saitek 290 pro or something like that joystick. great for my jet but cant fly the heli for the life of me. I take off fine and all, and get to my destination. Problem comes when i want to stop or hover cant do it. Cant capture flags or anything. How do i slow down when I go forward. I have flown with people in jets who can go forward fast and just stop on a dime and hover. I try that and my nose goes straight into the ground and I die. If i pull back on the stick to slow down I drop straight to the ground. Am I doing something wrong with the throttle??? Need help! Could someoone give me a walkthrough or something. Just need some good tips. Also If I am going after an enemy on the ground I normally just run into them. I have seen people hovering looking down and attacking. I cant seem to do that either? HELP! Thanks.

BTW: can you look at your stats online to see your medals and stuff, I am on my girls laptop. Thanks again.

first of if you want to hover make sure you set back an equal force back, in what you put to the front when moving forwards. then try just let go of the throttle and decsend. if you want to attack groundforces just comes slowly hovering(so still moving) aim a bit down, fire, and pull your nose up again so dont go eating dirt. also i recommend trying to fly with your keyboard and later on with your joystick

Helis maneuverbility is very diferent from jets.
It's thrust force is directed towards the prependicular of the line of main helix. So if u inclinate it forward u'll start to move forward and so on, if u put them horizontal u hover (unless u were moving, u have to consider inertia, and so u balance it with some backward pull, see?).
Now the keys... they control the thrust of both helixes. W/S controls the main helix, relative a midle thrust (that's why it will hover with no key pressed), if u increase thrust u'll go up if heli is hoovering, moving forward faster if helix r inclined forward and so on. If u decrease it's power from a midle thrust u'll descend and no affection on movement of heli if u were moving. The A/D keys control the thrust of rear helix... it's thrust is balanced (if no key pressed) with the rotary inertia from main helix. If u press any of those keys u'll increase or decrease the rear helix power and therefor unbalance that rotary tendence of the choper, turning right or left.
      This is the basics... :p
All of this mixed can do wonders in manueverillity??? of chopers or simply letting u to freaking crash.... Just a matter of trainning.

Greets, an sory for my engrish.

Re: Need help flying Heli, good a jets, but not heli

I had this problem at first where I coudn't control the heli at all. I have the Logitech Freedom 2.0, I woudl suggest not to use the lever (throttle) for a heli. It is difficult to switch speeds dramatically when using that. If you keep a key for accelerate and decelerate seperately then you will find more control over it.

The only problem is aiming those darn rockets. I find it quite difficult to estimate where the rockets will land. Jet doesn't suffer from this

Try using your keyboard/mouse to fly the choppers. I use kb/m for jets and choppers. But, I've read on here, from numerous different members, that flying the choppers is a lot easier with the kb/m as oppsed to the joystick. Try that, and listen to what FLYWAYchat said.

I think there is a guide for this in the BF2/Tips & Tricks Forum Section. (1) IMO, put the joystick down for now, and try using Mouse/Keyboard. I've tried two different "Flight Sticks" in the Past and still find myself back with the Mouse and Keyboard. (2) get use to using Left/Right Keys for turning as appose to Pitch/Yawn. Pitch/Yawn is good at Speed-Full Speed, but for hovering over a Enemy Flag where Soldiers could appear, left/right keys give you better manueverability without having to leave your postion.

The choppers in BF2 are very easy to fly, DC (desert combat) choppers is where the real skill is needed (yes I can fly them), BFV and BF2 are dumbed down controls compaired to DC.

I use the same Saitek joystick, but for JETS ONLY.

KB and Mouse IMO are the best bet for helos, and I have much more time in a helo than a jet. I can bh whore it when needed, but generally stick to the attack helos. Once you get the hang of the mouse, flying it will be a cinch. I jacked my sensitivity way up too, helps when coming in low to waste a ground target -- you can pull up much easier..
