    thx for backin me up.

btw I helped him a whole lot more by being honest rather than having him spend hours like i have reading crap like that and only finding out that basically you're screwed. I havn't seen a single bit of info that actually helps you make your verification go quicker.

      thx for the replies...

the hdd is an older drive, not SATA, though I'll probably start thinking about going that route. I have started turning off the external drive (saw that it was being hit during the verifying process), which seems to help a bit.

looking into another gig of ram, and I'll defrag (though the xp install is only 2 months old) as well...

Multiple posters have said that increasing their ram amount caused a decrease in verify time. Many reported that going from 1gb to 2gb cut the time in half. But I guess u already know that, since you read every thread.

If this is true, yes I have a SATA. Although I think I may add another gig of RAM to my system. Just need the funds first. What would everyone reccomend?

Currently running PC3200, though I may just scrap it/sell it and get a brand new pair of 1gig sticks.

Wow. Try to breath, there are lots of people without this problem. How 'bout posting your specs and times and maybe we'll help you.

Just to clarify and not to sound like an ass, but how long is "forever"? Can you give me some exact times? I don't want to come across the wrong way, but many people feel 15 seconds is too long to wait.

The extra gig of RAM will help more than getting a SATA drive. I would go that way first, and then upgrade to SATA when it's convenient for you. PATA to SATA helps your OS load times, as well as other things, but you will get the biggest boost in BF2 by getting more RAM.
