'verifying client data' taking forever...

5-6 of us were playing last night and comparing the times that we get in the servers....we had guys with 768mb of ram getting in before myself, and other combinations of computer processor / memory / etc.. getting in before what you would think were better machines....

I seem to be one of the last ones in, and am trying to figure out where the problem lies...... Loading the game/map seems to be fairly fast, but I hang up on the "verifying client data" portion of the loading screen....

My specs:

abit nfs7 with 1gb pc3200 ram - dual channel - aggressive timings
athlon mobile 2600+, o/c'd to around 3200+ (runs at 2.2ghtz)
fx5500 128mb agp 8x also tweaked with rivatuner
40gb maxtor internal drive
80gb maxtor external drive

Yeah, any help would be great. Maps load quick for me, but then the verifying client crap seems to take unusally long.

Specs are..

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
1gb GeiL RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 (surprisingly, can play everything on medium 64 players, with no lag)
160gb HDD

Could be alot of things. State of fragmentation on the HD. Whether or not it's set as Dual Channel, timings, alot of things can contribute to longer load/verifying times. I take about 15-20 sec. with my rig.

Yeah I getcha'. Though understandably, your rig is ****hot, so it takes nearer to 30-45 seconds for me.

Well, I consider hot a nice Athlon X2 4800 w/ 2 7800GTX's in SLI, but thanks. My load time is also fairly quick becuase of it being a very fresh and optimized install of XP and BF2 with only Microsoft Money and some DVD editing software on board. I have a very little clutter on my machine as it's only serves 3 functions. Money management, DVD editing, and BF2.

I have this issue too. I can talk to my clan mates while loading on TS. I will load just as fast as they can, but when I hit the "verifiying" area I end up last in-game.

I just update my BIOS hoping that would clear some things up, but no luck.

For those of you who are saying you have lond "verifying client data" times, you might want to post if you have a PATA or SATA drive. Having a SATA drive can greatly reduce your loading times. It helped mine quite a bit to upgrade.

Well my loading times are going faster with 2 gigs but I want it faster! so I might get a SATA HD.

What's your current HDD? It may not help it that much if you have a newer PATA drive. From my experiance, it's most noticable when you upgrade from a 2-3 year old PATA to a brand new SATA, like what I did.

My loads on "verifying client data" are about 5-8 seconds. Was about 12-15 seconds till i went from gig 1/2 of 333mhz to 2 gigs corsair 3200.

My rig: P4 2.6 ht overclocked to 225/225 (2.9)
2 gigs corsair 3200 400mhz (overclocked to processor)
Nvidia 6800 128mb pipes opened and clocked to 425/476
Abit maxII Ic7 w/active northbridge cooling
80 gig intel ultra storage

Don't listen to all the fags who say crap like "get better connection" or "ur harddrive is a slow POS" or "ur rig sux". You wanna know the real problem? This game is a piece of SH[T! That's ur problem! I have the exact same!

yeah, it couldn't possibly be your Ub3r L33t puter, millions and millions of people have no problems with the game, but you are special, so EA sent you a ****ed up copy. Know why? They did it because they knew that you had such great advice to give out in the support forum. advice like "Don't listen to all the fags" and who could forget "This game is a piece of SH[T! That's ur problem!" WOW, that clears everything up. We can just delete ALL the posts now, and just put that as a sticky at the top. Good work man!
