I have never even seen a battlefield game before bf2, and I saw BF42 at wal-mart for only $4.99. Yea, that cheap, but will the great grafics and gameplay of BF2 deminish the fun of BF42? And if anyone wants to add some cool features in BF42, that would be apreciated.
Should I buy BF42?

Re: Should I buy BF42?
Yeah, for that price it's a steal. BF1942 is a classic. Personally, even though the graphics aren't as great as BF2's, I like the themes/theatres better in BF1942 than BF2. It's hard to beat the massive battles at Midway and Wake, with the ships, planes, tanks, and infantry all fighting. Plus it's WW2 themed so it can't be all bad!

Re: Should I buy BF42?
Oh yes, you can. Both the destroyers and the aircraft carriers are fully usable. You can drive them, use the main guns (destroyer), and the AA guns on the carriers. Plus one of the maps has submarines. The Invasion of the Philippines maps has those little torpedo boats as well. Neat stuff. I was somewhat disappointed when I found out the Essex in BF2 was a stationary object, to be honest. I loved those naval battles in BF1942 so much. :)

There are also Battleships with huge guns :)Originally posted by Wolfgang AbenteuerOh yes, you can. Both the destroyers and the aircraft carriers are fully usable.
In BF42 there ain't a commander role, and instead of the supply drops you've got medic cabinets and ammo boxes on/around the spawnpoints. There's also repair pads for vehicles at some flags/bases.
Instead of the Commander's artillery, you've got mobile artillery units. IIRC 3 of the classes has binoculars, which allows you to "spot" a target. Your spot will stay for 2 minutes, or until you die - and this is what allows the artilleries to aim (they can see exactly the same binocular view as you did when you spotted a target/area with them).
I can't remember if it's the case in BF42, but atleast in Desert Combat (a BF42 mod) you can be in one corner of the map, and hit a target way down in the other corner of the map with artillery
The BF42/DC artillery method is so much more awesome than that in BF2!
I'd say go for it - at that price you've got nothing to lose!Comment

The graphics are better in BF2, but I don't feel the gameplay is. For such as small price, how can you pass up the offer, and there's loads of great (free) mods available for it aswell.Comment

when I bought BF1942 , the day it came out, I was watching those graphics with open eyes, they where unbelieveble, and the water so realistic, .....
If I look now at BF1942,the graphics look like crap lol , no they aren't crap, but we aren't used to see graphics like that anymore, we have been spoiled over the years with games like far cry, doom III, half life 2 , BF2, ....
But BF1942 is tons of fun, but I am tired of all those WW II shooters, don't like them anymore, I want combat how it is nowComment
