i sortof got a xeon processor(2.0ghz) (dell precision) as a handme down..it was a major improvement over my Pentium III 500Mhz one ... supposedely the xeon is really expensive but how do u think it is with gaming?

The Xeon processor is technically a server processor. It is also the basis for the "Pentium 4 Extreme Edition" chips that Intel releases.
Not sure about the gaming. I would imagine simular performance to a P4. -

Right, they're server processors, designed for rapid, small-sized requests. They were based on the P3, and are often benchmarked as Intels best processor (well before 64/dual core) I'd say it's a good processor to have, and you should be glad as long as the speed is sufficient.Comment

It doesn't quite work that way, software can be split up into threads, so a processor or processors can split CPU time for each thread, making it faster.Originally posted by Noni

should be ok, but a 2 ghz intell anything is a little slow. I would take it for free though, no questions asked :). Many of the precisions with xeons were built for dual procs, is yours dual or does it have an extra slot on the mobo of another proc? If you got an empty slot, e-bay could make it a little nicer machine. If you got duals allready, then lucky you!Comment
