    Lone Wolf Defense

Even though I usually make my own squad to talk to commander, but I like to defend flags where the action is not currently taking place. That usually involves C4 and camping somewhere high. I was wondering if anyone else did this too, and might have some additional tips on what works and doesn't work.

I like to do that sometimes, like you i usually wait on a nearby building... If there aren't any I hang back from the base until enemies arrive then either creep up on them, or go in guns/grenades blazing, depending on how many of them there are.

C4 around and inside the base, wait until they are on top of the flag and still entering then BOOM! Not happy bunnies, but they will probably look for you next time. Watch your back at all times.

Well, when you chose to defend a flag. Sometimes you ARE a lonewolf. Not many chose to gaurd. But only attack.
Lately i too, have been making my own squad. If someone joins, fine. If not, who cares. I started doing this, because i believe out of the last 3 months of playing this game, under another squad leader, i have recieved a crate, maybe 3 times, when asked. Simply i think, the squad leaders dont understand, that for the commander its EXTREMELy hard to understand who is calling out for crates. So its thejob of the S Leader to do so. They just never do.

yeah, call out for supplies, but don't put them in the open where you will be shot if you run out.

Don't be a sniper, if tanks come along you can't do anything about it, claymores are nice but really not good for base defence (what if a teammate spawns and you get a TK? not nice).

I have never tried this, but I think I will sometime just so I can vary my gameplaying style and get a taste of something different.

This happened to me this past weekend. Our squad leader was sniping from a roof. I spawned on him and spawned prone with the business-end of a claymore staring me right in the face. I was like, oh crap man, I spawned right in front of your claymore. I sat there for a few seconds contemplating the meaning of life, the finally moved and set it off.

i do it when i'm a commander, i usually stick around one base, c4 the flag and the whole capturing radius, then go into a corner and hide and command. When i see the enemy trying to cap my flag, (uusally 2 or 3 infantry)... boom 3 kills plus defend points.

rofl, i want to make a mod where the claymore has a smily face and a notice that says "don't move..."

god its funny chucking one in front of your friends before the game starts...they will shoot you for it, but the resulting explosion is satisfying to say the least...

I hate when squad leaders are snipers and surround themselves with claymores, they really should lock the squad when they do that.

i take great pride in laying a good c4 trap i dont chuck it all over the floor where everyone can see it...doing that will only make sure you kill the idiots on the other team...i like to conceal then boom...anything left i mop up hehe

                        Re: Lone Wolf Defense

This is kind of a flag defense although not directly around a flag I use the following tactics at the start of Karkand as an MEC and ALWAYS get between 3-8 kills.

Start as spec ops on the lowest Mec flag.Sprint down the road (where the burnt out car and mounted gun are) towards the US base. You'll notice that next to the last building on that street are some pipes on one side and a car wreck on the other.Place one C4 on the pipes and one on the car and retreat to the mounted gun.Anywhere in this area gives you a clear enough view (if you hide sensibly) of the certain tanks,APC's and Humvees that will come plowing down that central path whilst keeping yourself hidden.Hit detonate when whatever comes first gets close enough. If the road is clear then repeat,if it's too risky C4 on the mounted gun on the OPPOSITE side to where the US are coming from and one on the tree in the centre of the road retreat towards the hotel using the bushes dotted along the road as cover and blow it when the next vehicle tries to push up on your position.

It is possible to do this from the city entrance all the way back to the hotel flag if you have a competant support with you and can see you gain a huge advantage pointwise very early on.

Key for me as Spec Ops is to ALWAYS plant C4 in somewhere hidden from vehicles;ie behind sandbanked walls close to flags,on trees close to roads,in bushes, anywhere that isn't spottable in seconds.Practice with a friend or on a small sized map on a server to get your timing right...It won't take you long and after a little while "getting your eye in" you'll be pushing for the explosive badge.

                          Re: Lone Wolf Defense

I'll place C4 around a flag but then I immediately move on to another flag. In BF2, thanks to the artillery, you really can't defend at least not for long. You become more of a sitting duck since you never know if the enemy might be able to see you as a bright red dot on their minimap. When I leave the flag I'll keep my eye on the minimap and if there aren't any friends near it and it turns grey I'll detonate. This tactic helps your team defend a flag and with you on the move you have a chance of getting another captured flag. The biggest drawback being if you die enroute to the next flag the c4 goes to waste.

It is better to have C4ed and lost than to have never C4ed at all.
