New LCD Monitor...will ghosting be a problem?

Im looking to upgrade to a LCD, and the two models im looking at are pretty similar, their only differences are:

Dell Ultrasharp 1704FPV
-Active Matrix TFT Display
-1000:1 Contrast ratio
-25ms Response time

Samsung 710N-BK
-a-si TFT/PVA Display
-600:1 Contrast Ratio
-12ms Response time

Basically I like the design and specs of the Dell model much better, except the 25ms response time worries me in terms of gaming. I just thought Id check and see if anyone had any opinions on the possibility of ghosting...otherwise I would probably do with the Dell...

Get the Samsung. The Dell will ghost a bit. The 12ms will not.

Ever play an original Gameboy? That was ghosting, its when the lcd pixels take way to long to change color and you get a blur almost like the shell shock in BF2 I have a 12ms dell 2005fpw so I say go with the 12ms, I have no ghosting at all.

I may be wrong but anything 12ms and below will not ghost.

Don't take the response rate listed in specs of a LCD at face value, some manufacturers specs are exaggerated or incorrect, e.g. they might list the ms for black and white, but it isn't representative for all colors on the LCD.

This could mean a monitor with listed 16ms in specs could in fact be worse than a 25ms. To be sure check the LCDs out first hand, or read reviews from a site that you trust to do proper testing or has good reputation. Listen to other forum users, but don't let it be your only reference as not all know if the monitor they have bought is any good.

In theory a 25ms LCD is not capable of showing FPS above 1000/25 = ~40 FPS properly. Use this method to find out the max FPS a LCD can show proper, if you trust the response rate listed that is.

Yeah, I like to believe you need to see in action to tell for sure.
Different manufacturers/etc. produce different results at same ms rating.
I've seen up to 35ms with almost no ghosting, just depends. No me gusta Dell though.

I have a 16ms response time on my 19" ViewSonic, and I get no ghosting.

If you're looking for in inexpensive 19" LCD then I suggest the Samsung 930B. I have one and there's absolutely no ghosting or anything. It plays beautifully, I couldn't be happier and I read reviews 4 hrs a day for weeks before purchasing it. It's a great little monitor.

i use a dell 1905FP LCD,

basicaly its got a 800:1 ratio, an a 20 ms, i haven't really noticed any blur on it, well cept for when i first got it i did, but thats just cause it was my first LCD lmao, so it took like half a day for my eye's to adjust to the new picture. but i play on it for most of my games and i watch most of my DVD's on it, and i don't really notice any ghost on it anymore

- also the USB ports it adds are quite nice as well for hookin my joystick an such up on the fly

I have an Acer 19" with 16ms response time and get no ghosting; prior to that I had a dell 15" with a response time of over 30, and I still never saw any ghosting.

Actually I made a mistake there. You should do a Google search on your model + review + gaming. That'll give you some insight into what you can expect from each model. I shouldn't have suggested a product that you didn't list as an option. Sorry.

I have the Dell ultrasharp 17"-er but I think I have 12ns...perfectly find at 50 fps...actually it's Fab-u-spankulous.
