    Can som1 please fill me in on what modding is?

    ok, i see all this modding stuff, but i really dont understand what it is.
    i know what it does, like allow you to modify things, and make your own maps and objects.
    but what exactly does it allow you to do?
    can you play in a regular game with downloaded mods?
    what is the system of it?
    are there mod only servers or somthing?
    where can you use them?
    how?
    just stuff like that.
    so if som1 could just fill me in on that i would be very happy

    OOOHHH GOOOODDDDD!!!!!!...so many questions

    any who,you can make your own maps,make your own objects and put them into bf2

    some mods you can play on singleplayer,others you have to play on multiplayer

    mods do have to have there own servers yes

    you can use,well i already said some mods you can play in singleplayer others you must play in multiplayer

    how...well people modify the files in bf2 to give weapons more ammo,more health to players,make you go faster in a jeep,ect

    they also make there own weapons or characters and put them into bf2,as there is no way to edit or change bf2 objects,well there is but you have to ask some guy

    yarin is working on a way to change bf2 objects too

    so in some ways you can edit the files with notpad or wordpad,other ways you have to use a 3d modeling program to make your own models,you can use 3ds max,maya,or gmax witch is free

    hope that explians something

        What you mean is called cheating, if you use modified content on a regular server the gameserver notices it and you can not play online. I dont think that you get banned so quickly.

          Mod = modification
          Modding = modifying

          A mod is a modified version of the original game. You can change the way the game/objects behave by making changes to the code (usually done in notepad or some such text editor) you can add maps, new models, sounds, textures, etc. The idea behind most big mods (aka Total Conversions) is to create a new game using the engine of the original game.

              Re: Can som1 please fill me in on what modding is?

              Can you still play the original game when a mod is installed? For example, one day I might want to play in a mod but the next I might just want to go back and play with my mates.

              And are there ranked servers for the mods? Or would this again be classed as cheating?

              Cheers for any help.

                yes, mods are made for this purpose, the changed content is separated from the original files.
