i click on the BF2 icon. and the screen turns black and it goes to the desktop "crash". There is no error message

What motherboard are you using? complete model number and chipset info would be helpful.
Do you have any IRQ conflicts?
Are all your GFX and chipset drivers up to date?
Are your Smart GART drivers installed properly?
