Hi, how many people use a microphone to paly this game? cause i was goning to buy a new headset to use with this game but there is no point in buying one if noone else usues mics.

I always have a couple friends on my TS server, and I also use the ingame Voice to talk to others.
Adds a lot to the game. I wouldn't want to be without it.

One thing I think is important when considering to buy a headset is its quality and price. Don't try to save money there because a good headset with good sound are very important in this game.
If you have good earphones, then just buy a table mic that you can place on the table infront of you.
I bougth myself a Sennheiser PC 155 a while ago, was a bit expensive, but the soundoutput it produces is unbelievable.
When I'm in a dog fight with a chopper or plane, I can here exactly where they are.

I use my mic to chat with the guys I play with regularly.

Whenever I've used the squad VOIP with strangers, I've generally had a good experience.

If you don't want to hear somebody, you can always mute them on the 'manage' player screen.

no one uses VOIP 'cos it supposedly degrades performance. i'd say 90% of the mic users are on teamspeak or ventrilo.

I use Voip all the time in game, even if none of the people in the squad can reply they certainly hear me and respond. If people in the squad are using their mikes then you get a much better gaming experience, and you reallly know you are playing against real people from all over the world. Last night my squad was 2 Germans, 2 Scotsman, an Asian/Englishman and a Texan. We kicked ass in a blackhawk and I got my highest score ever.

One time I joined a squad and 2 of us took to the skies in a Cobra, me as pilot and my team-mate as gunner. The constant communication made it much better, people listening in thought it sounded like Gulf War footage, and it made my day. You may not get everyone using the voice system, but when you do it's well worth it.

VOIP is BAD quality
most do not use it
slows down your frames per second
our clan uses Ventrilo
no effect on frame rate
and we can talk to ALL of our team and commander
makes game play GREAT

Unless you're playing with a few people you know tho, what help is ventrilo. It may be better for matches or for playing with friends, but at least with VOIP you can communicate with strangers.

I use TeamTalk when playing with my clanmates. I just occasionally use in-game VoIP.
