    Anyone play with vsync?

If you play with vsync what do you do about how it effects fps?

    when on i get 20-42 85

off 60-85 all the time/no lag

Cant stand tearing but cant stand low fps... is there a option in the middle you can pick to fix this issue? I posted questions all over the web today and im gussing no one here would know to

I used to play with it on, because I dont like the tearing, and enabling it also reduces ghosting on my cheapo LCD. However, the FPS hit is just too great. This game seems to handle vsync extremely poorly, and I have not yet found a solution.

i run vsync, 60 fps- without vsync was running 100 fps. If you have coolbits installed i don't know how to change it cause i use riva tuner to set vsync on, not the game.

VSync disabled, in BF2 it makes no difference for me. Though on LCDs and in racegames you can mainly see improvements when having it enable.

I know what you mean.... at first I thought my computer just couldnt take the game.. but then I installed new drivers and found out it was vsync that was killing it... Its such a large impact then any other game I have ever played. I posted all over the web about this and no one really knows a way around it. Hope in a pacth or something they can work it out

The reason you get 42 if you run at 85Hz is because the frame can't fit in with 85 if your FPS is lower than 85, so it tries 85/2=42,5. This happens whenever you get FPS <85 then v-sync will try to sync it. If you were able to produce more than 85FPS you would be to be at 85FPS all the time. In games that utilize triple buffering it would not go to 85/2 first, it would try 85x 3/4 so there hit on fps would be less.

Many ppl run at 60Hz in some games, and are capped at 60FPS and think it is v-sync that is the primary cause, but it is the fact that the run in low Hz, so running 100Hz would be the first solution, not to disable v-sync.

              Here is my suggestion:

If you get more FPS than your Hz (fps > Hz) then enable v-sync.

If you get less fps than your Hz (fps < Hz), then disable v-sync as the tearing is less if fps < Hz.

I have it since i use an LCD only capable of doing 60 hz.

Yes on LCDs it could be a problem because the Hz isn't representative of how much FPS you can get, like on a CRT. On a LCD the response rate determines the max fps, e.g. a 16ms response rate would yield a max of 1000/16ms= ~60fps.

So a LCD that has 60Hz, but a respons rate below 16ms would be holding fps back if v-sync was enabled, because it looks purely at refresh rate, the Hz.

The lower the ms the better, just note the fact that the ms in specs aren't necessary accurate, and that's why when buying a LCD one should test it first hand, or read a review from a site that does proper testing.

                    Re: Anyone play with vsync?

well thats not really a answer... i know how vsync works but i never had it kill my fps this bad before in any game

off i get 60-85 i capped the fps at 85 not 100 with using a command to change it in game

"If you get more FPS than your Hz (fps > Hz) then enable v-sync.

this is not even a work around... play with tearing or play with vsync (low fps) is all you are saying..that is the issue right now

oh i didnt buy a lcd... over priced and not as good for gaming really

                      Re: Anyone play with vsync?

That how v-sync works in any game(without triple buffering), if you can't achieve FPS => Hz then you are going to get your FPS = Hz/2 or lower as it will keep dividing further, not by 2 everytime though.

In my experince there's less tearing if you can't achieve FPS above your Hz without v-sync, and then there's no real benefit in using it. If you use that logic then there a time when to use v-sync and when not to.

You are probably only noticing it in BF2 because it is very resource demanding.

i already know this...bf2 doesnt look that great (nothing we havnt seen before) it just hogs everything

I played games like FEAR and this issue is not there with vsync (everything maxed)

no one ever knows a work around in bf2 for this...oo well i give up

BF2 does not support triple buffering to the best of my knowledge Anyone who says different, please provide proof where it can enabled in the .con files as DirectX only supports triple buffering if the engine tells it to. Therefore, by enabling VSYNC, you will 1/2 your frame rate every time it dips below your refresh rate. Just disable vsync & increase your refresh rate to something >75Hz (I prefer 85-100).

Any game supports triple buffering..... What are you talking about? Just because you don’t see a slider to enable it doesn’t mean it isn’t there

Well anyways I found how to fix my issue... well best I could

I enabled triple buffering then I turned Textures to med... When it is on high and triple buffering is enabled my fps would drop always on a new map change... from 60 to 30-40

I am guessing bf2 keeps the resources and doesn’t dumb out the old... leading to poor performance when I play another map... triple buffering uses its on amount by itself... maybe in a patch when the game gets more optimized I will be able to play textures on high like everything else.. To bad this bug is there and probably not many know of it… only a couple minor things they could do to fix it... I tried myself but good old pb thought I was hacking J

anyone who plays with vsync and has this issue then just do what i said and it will be gone

I just tried it and didn't have any tearing nor any increase in FPS.
