Hi i just bought a X800 PRO-MSI, the fan that i have on it isnt bad but my old card was the fx200 from my old pc, i disconnected the fan on it and now it is seperate, i noticed that my X800 PRO has a extra connector for my fan(fits perfectly). Since my case doesnt have the greatest ventilation, how can i get my extra fan to run on the other x800, i hooked it in and nothing happend except that now i cant access fan control in ati tool unless i remove fan. Thanks in adavance.

#2: The I will assume you are refering to the extra 4-pin molex connector. This is used for case fans. If you need to install a case fan it isn't that hard, granted you have a steady hand. Its as simple as drawing a circle cutting it out, pre-drilling holes, and screwing it all in.

Well thats the simple terms, you can find tutorials all over the web on how to add a case fan.

the problem is that the fan doesnt work, it is a video card fan i got off of my fx5200, and when i connect it it doesnt work

Are you sure thats a fan plug? Did you check the cards user guide? There maybe something you have to do to it for it work work. Also did you try testing the fan somewhere else? Does it work then?

Also why put an FX5200 fan on it? First off it isn't compatible, secondly, I doubt it will do much at all. The key to cooling is airflow through the case, not on the cards.

i want to hook the old vid card fan into my vid card which has a extra connector for a fan, not for ps. This is a small little connector. My vid card already has one fan, i just want to add another for the sake of i have a extra fan, and i want my vid card as cool, best performance as possible.

This is wayy to confusing.

First off, fans for video cards are usually on a 4pin micro-connector. Something that would fit on this:

Secondly, most video cards including the X800XL only have 1 fan connector. The only other power plugs look like this:

Usually there is a "Y" connector to split power to the card, and pass it to another device. The only fans that use a 4pin molex connector like that are case fans:


So either you're trying to connect something that isn't in the right place, or something simular to that, or I am missing something.

Ok now u see where the wire connects to the fan, to the right of that is a white rectangle, the fan connectore from my old vid card fits in that rectangle perefectly

Ok now see the fan in this FX5200 which just like mine, which i took off.

See the fan to video card connector, that connector fits into the the extra connector on the x800 Pro

aND WHAT I WANT TO DO IS HOOK BOTH FANS TO the vid card.

I read the specs on the card, and there is no mention of an extra fan connector. My guess is that it does not pull enough power to operate 2 fans. However, you maybe able to find an adapter for a 4pin to 3pin connection. This will allow you to run your fan off of a molex connector instead of the 3pin connection it has right now.

But in reality, it probably won't do much. The fan is probably a little weak, and depending upon where you put it, probably won't move that much air. Your best bet is just to not cheap out on a case for your next build.

The little white connector on the ATI is not an extra fan header. THe card does not have enough extra power to run two fans alone.

What I suggest is that you make a "fanwich" to have the other card blowing on the top side of your video card. I have made several and they lower vid card temps greatly even with excellent case cooling.

To power your extra fan, simply cut off the tiny connector and solder on a molex connector or a motherboard fan connector and run the second fan from the mobo chasis fan header.
