So I jump in the gattling gun on the aircraft carrier for the first time get a lock on a enemy jet launch a salvo of missles & prompty shot down 3 friendlies that were not even in sight & was booted (with good cause) . I have noticed nobody mans these things for just that reason. I R NOOB. So sorry wont happen again I learned my lesson.

Just don't shoot when there's a dogfight, then you'll be fine.Comment

Re: Sorry did'nt know wont happen again
I hate it when those missiles decide to go for friendlies instead of the intended victim, gives you a bad feeling in the stomach area. I also hate it when you are strafing an enemy chopper and you forget to pull up at the last second and they think you are just a n00b who flies into choppers for kills.Comment

Re: Sorry did'nt know wont happen again
i wouldnt shoot anyways because i find it nearly impossilbe for those missles to hit anything that its locked on to unles its maybe a chopperComment

Re: Sorry did'nt know wont happen again
yeah, those things are useless. once the enemy uses flares, you're rockets will miss them and hunt the nearest friendly.Comment

Re: Sorry did'nt know wont happen again
Yep...let me relate a little story for you. It was on a map. The chinese pass one/waterfall/whatever its name is. I spot a Enemy helo lock on, throw out one stinger. It goes right for its target straight on. Im thinking" Yes Im gonna at least hit it". He drops flares, "Oh well, least I tried." Suddenly the damn thing veers almost 180 degrees and takes out a stumbling, smokey seahawk fully loaded. Im thinking "Son of a Bitch, F you EA."
Burkey kicked from sever. Too many GD TK's.
If the enemy dropped his flares and it was already dead on. Why or how in the world would it suddenly veer off and go for a friendly? Usually you would expect it to just go after the flares. But I mean it was almost right on top of the enemy chopper, and then veered once he dropped flares. Hella dumb.Comment

Re: Sorry did'nt know wont happen again
The missiles are heat seekers, they go for the hotest target, if an enemy jet is using normal trust while an friendly is right near it using after burners it's gonna go after the afterburners instead. Too bad there arent different type of missiles, heat seekers are a pain especially if your in the friendly jet and your teammate is shooting rockets at an enemy jet behind you when your using afterburners.Comment

Re: Sorry did'nt know wont happen again
I believe lock on missiles are not heat seakers, they lock onto a single source thus making flares useless, flares are only good b4 lockon is achieved.Comment

Flares are for *******, use an Alpha Break manuver. Or, because its a game, you could use the stall-n-strike. CAN you black out in BF2? I've never tried but the SNS would look wicked cool in the game.Comment

Re: Sorry did'nt know wont happen again
If they arn't heat seeking flares wouldn't do a thing, flares only counter heat seeking, they would have chaffs then, they are DEFINETLY heat seekers. Didnt know about the afterburning thing, but that explains a lot.Originally posted by DXSpartanI believe lock on missiles are not heat seakers, they lock onto a single source thus making flares useless, flares are only good b4 lockon is achieved.Comment

Re: Sorry did'nt know wont happen again
i tried getting my aviation ribbon and badge in a fighter, but for everything i did, i ALWAYS hit friendlies, and almost all of the time, as you say, out of the field of view. this is some seriously ****ed up ****.
I was beind a f-15 flying back to back in a relatively straight line, locked-on and fired. he jinked his plane around a bit, and all the misiles missed. since it was on fushe pass with the long corridor, I wound up shooting down 2 friendly transports, 1 friendly attack helo, and the other fighter in the map all in one fell swoop. obiously, i was immediately booted.
I have not touched fighters again and got the aviation ribbon by bombing, the safer way
