    Stutters on BFG 6800GT

I know many people have had stuttering problems with BF2 when using a high-end system.

    My friend has a 3500 AMD64 - 1gb ram - BFG 6800GT and he gets stutters.

    Any help?

EDIT: He's got the nvidia drivers that come with BF2...I forget what version those are.

you need another gig of ram that is all.

      I agree.

If he cannot afford RAM, wait for the v1.03 patch for some optimizations.

Well that doesn't make much sense because I'm running the following:

        AMD64 3200+
        1gb pc3200 ram
Leadtek 6800GT (it was clocked lower than his until just now)

I run BF2 just fine on all high - AA at 1024x768 (I don't care about AA really), yet he gets stutters.

EDIT: I'm running the same drivers too.

          Re: Stutters on BFG 6800GT

I can get a screenshot if you don't believe me, but with all settings on high, I am running out of RAM. I just got my 6800 and I set everything to high. It looks great but it stutters.

I highly agree it is because I could use more RAM.

The reason I say so is because I have a performance monitor running when my computer is on.

Computer idle reports about 175/1024 MB/s ram used, 256/2500 MB/s pagefile usage.

In BF2 with high settings it rises to 989/1024 MB/s RAM used, 1010/2500 MB/s pagefile used.

That is almost the highest usage I've had. It won't use 100% memory, it needs to have some buffer to prevent memory crashes, but by those numbers you can see it's using ALOT of ram, and adding at least another 256-512 would sure help.

I used to play with a 5200. I set everything to low, it looked like ass and wasn't fun, but it didn't stutter. With all low settings, memory usage was about 725 MB/s ram, 825 MB/s pagefile.

That is just my experience, but I believe based on this information, I can either get more RAM or lower some quality settings in order to reduce RAM usage.

Hmm Well I'm running (Stutter Free) a 4year old machine : AMD 2700xp, Nforce2 Deluxe MB, 1gig Kingston Ram, and have a BFG 6800GT... Running the game @ 1024x768 everything on High except Dynamic Shadows which is on Med.. Playing Single Player that is....

The problem is most likley Drivers or to many background programs running at the same time as your playing,,, You DO NOT NEED to buy another GIG of Ram (That's just silly advice).

My advice would be a clean install of GFX drivers, use Driver cleaner Pro aswell, Then install the latest GFX drivers... If that fails to improve then look at your Motherboard Drivers and doing the same thing...

Edit // You may also want to Uninstall BF2 and delete any left over folders in Program files & My Documents folder and doing a complete Re-install of BF2 after you have updated your Drivers ....

GFX drivers can be found here for the 32bit set >

            Or the 64bit set >

            Good luck

if ur low on ram u should let the computer just sit with bf2 running in full screen cuz the comp just frees up ram from the background processes and it mite help

                Re: Stutters on BFG 6800GT

I followed some of the recommendations on the optimization guide at www.tweakguides.com/BF2_2.html and got my ram usage down to an average 900/1024. And guess what, like I hypothisized, no more hard stutters. So I was right in my case, that the stuttering was due to excessive ram usage, the only solution to which being, to get more ram or use less of what I already had. And the changes were mostly insignificant from a graphics standpoint so I only sacrificed a small amount of quality.
