    Odd Graphics

I've been playing BF2 since the Demo, and got it a few days after it came out, and have been playing flawlessly. I used Omega drivers for my 9800 Pro. I had to format yesterday, so I re-downloaded the newest Omega drivers, then installed BF2. None of my hardware has changed.

When I get into a game, it seems to do fine, then gets choppy. Then, all of a sudden, the terrain and sky will go black, then flash between black and normal. Sometimes it gets very pixelated. Things will often get rainbow colors.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advanced.

And one more thing. Now for some reason, I can't connect to any servers.

Your card isn't overclocked is it? And you're certain your power supply is sufficient to support your card (High enough wattage)? When a videocard gets pushed too hard and/or isn't getting enough power to support itself it tends to display strange shapes/colors.

I pushed my little 5200 too hard and it gave me garbled graphics. Of course after a reboot and lowering HL2's quality settings, I was back in business.

        In short, I don't know.

Honestly, its the Omega drivers, lol. Now I know I will get yelled at because on every gaming site, there are Omega fan boys, but I have had nothing but bad experiences with Omegas.

So my recommendation? Get ATI's offical driver, Cats 5.8! http://www.ati.com/support

And as always, remember to uninstall, and clean them first with DriverCleaner3. http://www.drivercleaner.net

That's the odd thing about it. I tried Catalyst drivers back when everything was working fine, and they didn't seem to do as well. Switching to the Omega actually helped a few problems I was having.

However, I may have the problem: I did a hard drive test, and it said my drive was failing. And prior to this, with no hardware changes, BF2 ran flawlessly. I'll get back to you in about a month to see if the HD is the problem.

Many hard drives that are reported as failing will usually have some life left in them. The problem is that they become less reliable, in that, when the computer asks the drive for info, sometimes it can't get it and has to retry several times. They become less reliable and slower. A failing hard drive should replaced when you get the resources to do so, but it's isn't necessarily going to crash on you right away. Many of my "failing" hard drives can still be used for several more years, but they are prone to failure.
