Anyone use a joystick to fly a helicopters? How is it?
Re: Anyone use a joystick to fly a helicopters? How is it?
I use a joystick for choppers, it takes some getting used to. After you get used to it its better than any other configuration IMO. I am able to get in hovering position very fast and also evade stuff a lot better than with the keyboard.

heli's are great with a joystick. if your decent with a mouse you'll probably suck with the joystick at first, but if your a good pilot you'll find that you'll catch up to and then surpass what you were able to do with a mouse. I find especially for n.o.e. flying and precise off axis moves (ie swooping down at an odd angle to get into the tunnels in kubra damn as opposed to lining up for it from a ways away) you cant beat a joystick

Its a dream to be honest, for fast attack manuvers and such, its incredible. For the attack helo, its great for low altitude flying, and "popping up" with your throttle. You can do some crazy slick 'nam style landings and such. You can also fly with great precision sideways, and do barrel rolls and flips.
Mouse and Keyboard work great, but for attack helo, joystick, for BH and anything else, Mousy.
Re: Anyone use a joystick to fly a helicopters? How is it?
I love using my joystick for flying a chopper. I get a lot of comments about my flying being quite good (and I'm really not a pro like I'm sure a lot of other players are).
I think it comes from the fact that I've been using joysticks since the beginning of time (well, to give you an idea...I had one of those tiny metal stick joysticks with the tiny button on top of the stick and 2 on the 'base' for my old XT 8086 5 MHz machine). So I'm USED to using joysticks for flying in all of my games.
I would certainly recommend a joystick with a twist stick for rudder control...I can't live without it.
Make sure to get a stick with a good throttle control where you easily know where center is (for hovering).
