So what keeps you coming back to the game, or what do you get out of battlefield 2. heres my reasons
For me personally the game is centered around being an attack chopper pilot. I've always got the joystick front and center on my desk ready to go. I'm not a bitch about it though, if the chopper is taken I'll help out my team through other means.
before I got this game I knew I'd be a chopper pilot. being a pilot in any game is usually where you'll find me. though the physics might not be right I love being able to be a pilot in a game that lets me contribute to a ground campain. Personally I learned to fly before playing a multiplayer map and wasting everyone elses time. Also because at the start I didnt think my system would handle multiplayer, (my comps really old, new one comes next week) So what I did was start a server then just jump in myself and fly the chopper around, getting used to throttle controls, shooting up all the vehicles to get used to the rockets and where they hit in respect to chopper movements and target reticles etc. Then I'd get bored (remember I didnt think my system was powerful enough to play online) so I'd start flying through the kubra dam tunnels and the low bridges and inbetween buidings, inside the boat launch in the carriers etc etc until anywhere a chopper can fit I can put it.
well the practice has paid off and I dont think I've had more fun in a game. it turns out my system can play online, at the lowest res with all extras turned off. it looks like crap but it runs pretty good, fast enough that flying is no problem anyway.
I'm a player that really enjoys the team aspect of the game, sure its fun to pop over that hill and straffe a convoy of tanks, then get painted by aa only to hide behind a water tower, or duck behind some buildings so I can find the bastard and make him regret calling attention to himself (note to new pilots, know all aa locations and threat warnings on a map, I see so many new guys get painted and panic, only to fly themselves into the ground)
anyway, that type of action (while one hell of a lot of fun) isnt when I get my biggest grins. its when I hear "enemy tank spotted" and check my map only to see 1 lone infantry trying to defend our flag with a tank and apc approaching fast. I can see the look on that guys face as it turns from horror to joy as I come out of nowhere rockets flying and halt that advance dead in its track only to circle around and see that guy typing up a friendly f@ack yeah that was awesome!!!
I guess my other kick comes from flying so much before I joined real games, and getting to show off a bit to the gunner. I know kubra damn is a good place to find good pilots having fun in the tunnels. Theres something about getting painted by that one aa, only to dive from an impossible angle into the tunnel, find a jeep already inside but managing to blow him up before he crashes into you, then pop up the other side and through the scaffolding to take out the aa and then loop the bridge or fly nap through trees and buildings. I think I laughed the hardest after an epsiode of that had my gunner chiming in with something like "mary mother of christ that was insane!!!"
a good gunner is worth there weight in gold, knowing when to switch from tv cam to chain gun, spotting infantry etc. I definatly make an effort to be a stable gun platform cause I know its no fun for gunners when they cant really help out on quick jerky straffe runs
Its hard to find a server that has good teamplay, or to find a good gunner. but when you get into one of those games its a great gaming experience and if you ever see me in a game make sure to use "q" and spot tanks and heli's or anything else that needs blown up as I'm more than happy to come over that rise with guns blazing.
anyway this isnt a "look what I can do" thread, I'm just wondering what everyones experiences are that keep them coming back night after night and where they find the fun in their game. its always entertaining to hear stories of how this game manages to suck you in.
