First time as Commander last night, and...

...I will never do it again.

I didn't mind the insults from idiot squad leaders who wouldn't make requests.

I didn't mind the idiots who drove directly into an artillery attack, even though I launched the attack well before they arrived.

What really bothered me is what some idiot pilot started a kickvote 3 minutes before the round ended, so that he could get the double bonus for the round (or so he thought).

Apparently 80 points just aren't enough for some people...

Haha, I know what you mean.

I finally had to turn off voting because every single time someone would be commander, they start a kick vote on them. If sucessfull, they'd start a kick vote on the new commander!

    Some people are just pathetic.

You were pretty unlucky to encounter all of that in one round... I enjoy playing as commander and there are always a few idiots, but i've never had a round with as many as yours. Probably had to do with the server you were on. Give it a couple more tries and chances are you will have a better experience...

Dont take it so badly m8, you will often get kick and mutiny votes as a commander, it dosen't mean anything (unless you know yourself you have done a bad job) Win, lose or draw someone will always think you have done something "wrong" or rather done something slightly differenly to how they want to do it, and then the lemming instinct will make other people PGUP but i have never, ever seen either type of vote pass (except by default if he leaves anyway) so just ignore it.

To top it all off, mostly if you actually ask anyone that tried to mutiny you out, then they are not interested in doing the job themselves, although in your example that might not have been the case.

Don't worry about the kick votes, they're practically random, and common. Being commander only doubles the points you got as commander.

Also, in case you don't know, the commander score is the average of your team's scores, not counting negative points (except the commander's own TK's of course). It's a little more complicated than that, but that's basically it.*

Artillery is tricky. Assume people can't see the artillery icon; if they're moving into combat, they won't be paying attention. Don't try to soften up enemies that your side is engaging, especially if the sides are even or better; let your team get kills (after all, the more kills they get, the more points you get). If you've got a cooperative squad, you might be able to coordinate this aspect better; otherwise, play it safe.

Basically, as Commander, the best thing you can do is show your team where the enemy is. Scan & spot, and UAV.

                * Long version of Commander score: Every time someone on your team gets a point, you get one point divided by the number of teammates alive at that moment. You don't get your teammates' negative points. This is before doubling for victory of course.

By the end of the round, scan/spot, UAV, and supply were about all I was doing.

                    I understand that.

Seriously, the pilot hit the wrong chat key. He was trying to tell his friend that they needed to get me kicked so that he could get 160 points for the round.

                    Oh the idiocy.

Oh I didn't doubt that the pilot thought that. :)

Yeah don't worry about it. I love commanding though I was getting irritated last round and teamkilled for the first time on purpose. Two retards decided to statpad as support. When I told them to cut it out and called them padders the guy acted like I was crazy and said he wasn't medic so he wasn't a padder. Him and his buddy just sat there tossing grenades getting resupply points so I artied both of them. Luckily I play on a non-punish server.

try commanding in a server with less people.

                          1) makes it easier
                          2) smaller maps/smaller teams lets you concentrate on what needs to be done
                          3) less likelyhood of team kills/mutiny

                          like they mentioned earlier:

UAV and SPOT are the most important
stay in the center of a building so you can be protected when the other team artilleries and stay prone
drop supplies over damaged UAV, SCAN, ARTILLERY and/or be an ENGINEER

once you get the feel of things, work your way up to larger maps and/or servers with more players

just got basic command last night. good luck.

I used to hate being commander but now that I'm sniping a lot it actually helps out. I can still be helpful on the ground while giving uav and arty when needed.
