    Re: no more bf2

Just my two cents, but every game has a shelf life (with the inexorable exception of Counter Strike) there must be a cycle for the industry to survive/grow. Having said that I am a huge Id fan, and I have been waiting for this game for some time, but at the same time I am now a huge BF2 fanboy as well. Personally I can see myself splitting my time between both until either one game takes a paramount lead, or when the next latest greatest game comes out (Team Fortress 2 is still on my list of vaporware must haves).

I think most people who buy ET will play BF2:ET - 60:40

Another thing to consider is I think the modding scene on the BF2 engine is going to be very big and by the time ET:Quake wars arrives there will be a lot of mod's to choice amongst and mods are free.

Personally I am getting fairly bored of standard BF2 now so mods are what will give it a much longer life for me.

I'm a huge fan of mods and custom maps. But EA/Dice put the modding community in a bad predicament. And that is the inability to run modded content on ranked servers.

I think we all can safely assume the the rank(ing) aspect of BF2 is its major selling point. Not only are custom maps and mod going to have to compete with other mods, but with the rank system of the game. There are decent custom maps out there now, but everytime I find a server running them, its empty.

Honestly, I hope I am wrong, because there are a pleathra of oppitunities to mod this game, and there are some great ideas floating around. But I fear pulling the players consumed with stats away from the ranked aspect to actually populate a mod/map is going to be hard. Personally I would rather be playing with people that just want to play instead of people just caring about stats. But at the moment, those people are hard to find in the general populace of BF2.

I feel the bottom line is the devs set the modding community up for failure.

Definitely agree. It will definitely be "different" and that's what I am looking for. Hopefully it won't be as buggy as BF2...

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Quake Wars as well. And CoD II? Cool graphics but NO THANKS. I'm so sick to death of WWII shooters, lol. I still have MoH: Pacific Assault I've yet to play through past the bombing of Pearl Harbor even though it was pretty cool. I may buy CoD II just to have it, but I doubt I'll give it any real play time other than the single-player campaigns.
